mine are Enkei 18\" but not sure how wide, w/ 225/40/18 tires. Not yet lowered so no rubbing occur, Tires23 told me it would be rubbing even if I lowered 2\", hopefully it is true:p

If you have your heart set on a particular wheel, there is a company on Keele north of Langstaff, called Tire Mag. They have the machinery to do custom wheels. Now I know you\'re going to say, I don\'t want custom I want Enkei\'s or Motegi\'s or some other name brand, but the offset doesn\'t fit. The last time I was there to get my winter wheels + tires, I had spoke to Steve. He works in the front and takes care of all the paper work. Anyway he was telling me that for a small fee (I think it was like $25) they would through your wheel on the lathe and machine the offset to fit your car. Now every wheel cannot be made to any offset. But you can give or take a little. For example if the wheel is a +45mm offset they can usually make it a +50 or +55 depending on the wheel.

Ahhh...gotcha. I hear that all the time on the Vortex. :p Almost became a dubber myself before I got the 3.

While on topic - can anyone think of any Mazda-specific mods? For example, the VW crowd has POKE :p, Bowser hoods, OEM-plus tuning...etc.

Not only is \"poke\" illegal but it is totaly unsafe.

Highway Safety Act Section 66, Subsection 3 states: Every motor vehicle and every trailer shall be equiped with mudguards of fenders or other device adequate to reduce the effectively the wheel spray or splash of water from the roadway to the rear thereof, unless adquate protection is afforded by the body of the motor vehicle or trailer or by the trailer drawn by the motor vehicle. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s 66(3).

That is why it\'s illegal now as for it being unsafe is another story. Your tires will rub and wear against the fender cutting into the tire and exposing the cords. Once the cords are exposed your tires must be replaced right away. If you tire blows out on you while driving it will not only be dangerous for you but the other drivers on the road. Now the arguement may be presented that the tire will not hit the fender or the body due to an incredibly stiff suspension but none the less the setup is still illegal as mentioned above. Unless you are going widebody don\'t even think about this. If you are using this setup as a show feature then fine, but otherise keep it off public roads.

How about aftermarket HID\'s that Mazda3 and Mazda6 owners are running? ;)

CelestSpeed3

HID\'s are not illegal according to the highway Safety act.

HTA 62(7) No person shall drive upon a highway a motor vehicle if either or both lamps that are required on the front of the vehicle by subsections (1), (2) and (3),

(a) are coated or coverd with a coloured material; or

(b) have been modified by the attachment of lamps or the motor vehicle of any device that reduces teh effective area of the lenses or the intensity of the beam of the lamps. 2002, c. 18, Sched. P, s. 19(1)

Really all this means is that if you make your lights less effective then stock you will get a ticket, now most aftermarket bulbs that feature the \"Cool Blue\" effect actually reduce the light output so you will get a ticket, HID\'s however don\'t reduce the light output, so you are fine, provided you don\'t run a 10000K bulb. Also be weary of the eyelids, some may reduce your ability to light up road signs and thus are illegal.

Now if you want to argue the HID\'s glare oncoming traffic well that\'s a matter of opinion because some people will say no others will say yes. I also know many motorcycle drivers who ride at night with their highbeams on so they are easily spotted by other motorists, now even though it\'s illegal they have never been pulled over for doing so even in the presence of a police officer.

Basically if it\'s UNSAFE for any reason it\'s ILLEGAL.

Gotcha...
So how about cars that come with FACTORY stretch? Are they illegal as well? Ferrari\'s... BMW...? etc.

CelestSpeed3

Yup, the same goes for the Dodge Ram pickups not having mud flaps. They are illegal, I\'m not quite sure why the poice or the MTO aren\'t enforcing anything though.
