View Full Version : Winter tires question
Hi, I have the stock Mazda all season tires with the specs 205/50/R17 and was wondering of getting the Viking Snowtech winter tires with specs 205/55/R 16 . Is that a good move ???

why don\'t you search (http://torontomazda3.com/forum/search.php) the forum for your answers?
see if you can answer these questions..
why might i want to downsize to 16s?
will the 16s in fact clear my calipers?
where do i find a review of the Viking tire?
is 205/55/16 equivalent to 205/50/17?
etc etc..
all of those (except for a reviuew on the snowtech b/c it\'s new to most of us) have been answered and beaten to death.. start out by reading the tire faq (link in my sig)

I put my Sno-Techs on my stock rims,I went with the 205/50/17. I actually put them on this weekend.

Of course, I can\'t rate them...There is NO snow!!
and I went from 18\" 40 series to the big pillow like 50 series... So the ride is Dang soft now!!!
It\'s a nice change. For the price, I think it is a good buy. Made by a very good company, Continental.

You are not trying to fit a 16\" tire on a 17\" wheel though, right??

I got my winter tires installed today, w300 hankook icebear and decided to get 16\" alloy rims instead. i got to find out the brand when i got home, the caps says \"ZOOM\" ...what a coincidence , slogan of mazda hehehehe...dont knw much about rims,so i didnt care anyway...
I know its winter, so who cares about how your tires will look like, right?....but like ive said in my other post I just cant stand seeing my car with black steelies, i tried looking for h-caps from MoT but the one i lyk is too costly, $90 n change a pc...
I was thinking getting 17\" alloy rims like the ones being sold by MOT ,but tires23 recommended i should get 16\", make sense though, higher tread wall is better in slushy conditions and likewise i could get the tire size for hankook.
though im 1,020 poorer atleast i have a piece of mind driving this winter (well ofcourse its not a guarantee not to get into accidents, it also depends how we/others drive during this conditions) unlike a couple of yrs ago i was running all season tires and when i was driving into corner road with black ice...bam! i wreck my front driver\'s side tire/rim, drive shaft, fender, etc. 2000 bucks damaged, ouch! so lesson learn from that........
What a difference now that my car is running in non low profile tires, way much better... :)

Damn, I guess I should bite the bullet and install mine tomorrow since I have a day off.
Goodbye summer (tires). :(
Finally got my winter tires! :) Hope they won\'t let me down.

Wow...I paid $650 (tax in) last year for my set of Kumho KW17s on steelies. For over $1000, I would have invested that money in some Nokians instead of running a set of average winter tires with some average looking alloy rims. However I am sure the people driving around you will appreciate the eye candy alloy rims you got mounted with your winters...
