finally u can use a flip key for the mazda 3 ....

here is what u need:

-Transmitter from Mazda6 sedan, RX-8, Miata, Mazda5(they all work)
-Flip key from any model (all the same part number)

Pics courtesy of autoexe:

http://individual.utoronto.ca/cc_706/car/key04.jpg

http://individual.utoronto.ca/cc_706/car/key03.jpg

http://individual.utoronto.ca/cc_706/car/key02.jpg

and then u will have the follow the procedure below to program ur key and the remote

**** programming the key ****

Items needed:
1. 2 pre-programmed transponder keys.
2. 1 new transponder key

The timing is critical to this procedure, please read through the entire procedure before attempting.
Procedure:
1. Insert one of the pre-programmed transponder keys and turn the ignition to \"on\", leave on for at least one second (I wait until the red key symbol in the instrument cluster extiinguishes), remove the key from the ignition.
2. Within 5 seconds insert the second pre-programmed key and urn the ignition to \"on\" for at least one second but no more than 5 seconds (use the key symbol for this as well) then remove the second key.
3. within 10 seconds insert the new key in the ignition and turn the ignition to \"on\", if you are successful the red key symbol will illuminate then extinguish after about a second.

If you are not successful the red key symbol will flash repeatedly to indicate that you have inserted an invalid key. Remove the key, wait a minute and try it again, it took me a few times to get it perfect and I had done it before.

***** programming the remote *****

Have all the remotes that you are going to be using, maximum of 3, with you when you do this programming as all of them have to be reprogrammed into memory.

Step 1: Open driver side door and leave open.

Step 2: Lock and Unlock the drivers door using the power door lock switch on the door

Step 3: Insert key into the ignition.

Step 4: Turn Key to ON position and return to Lock (off) position. Do this 3 times within 10 seconds. LEAVE key in the ignition in Lock (off) position.

Step 5: Close and open the drivers door 3 times. Leave door open after this step

Step 6: ECU should respond by locking and unlocking the doors once.

Step 7: Press any button on remote #1 twice. ECU responds by locking and unlocking the car doors.

Step 8: Additional remotes, repeat Step 7 for up to 3 remotes total.

Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition and the ECU will respond a final time with a series (about 4) of door locks and unlocks. You\'re done!

Hey Flipspeed,

Can you also cut the blank key to match the existing one I have (if so how much for it) and do you have both the RX8 remote and the blank key in stock as I feel like being the guinea pig for this project?:D

Thanks,
SpeedyG

I can cut them no problem but if you want to be the guinea pig be my guest.

BTW, you have to prepay for the remote.

Seems like an aweful lot of money for something that either hangs from the steering column or sits in your pocket most of the time, but hey, to each his/her own.

ds2chan
03-29-2006, 09:44 AM
if that\'s the case then we should just buy the remotes from \"remotesuperstore\" from ebay.. he\'s selling so many remotes for every car..

remotes (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LIKE-NEW-05-06-RX-8-KEYLESS-ENTRY-REMOTE-w-PROGRAM_W0QQitemZ8040428704QQcategoryZ33723QQssPag eNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

then we can just buy the key blanks from joe/flipspeed..

then I\'m guessing joe can cut them for us and possibly install the key onto the remotes we get from ebay..

SpeedyG
03-29-2006, 10:32 AM
Thanks for the answer Flipspeed. When you say \"prepay\" for the remote does it mean you don\'t have it in stock and you have to order it and if so how long will it take to get it? Do I have to leave you one of the keys in order to cut the new one or can you do it \"on the fly\" while I go and grab a coffee or something?;) And last but not least are you in on Thursday 30th as I might drop by to get them (and pay for all of them)? If I won\'t be able to make it on Thursday I\'ll be there on Saturday guaranteed.:)

FLIPDADY
03-29-2006, 10:49 AM
Prepay meaning I have to order it and if the programming doesn\'t work then you\'re stuck with it. No returns on electrical items.

I don\'t stock that particular remote. I do have the key blanks in stock.

SpeedyG
03-29-2006, 11:01 AM
OK I get it now. How long to get it after you order it? I\'ll take my chances with the programming.I\'ll try an be there on Thursday to prepay for the remote and get the blank key cut. Thanks Flip.:)

The flip key novelty does wear off. When I had one with my VR6 I think others found it \"cooler\" and were more fascinated with it than me :)

I liked it for about a month.. then it was meh.

shhh, u\'r ruining the moment for me.. :p j/k..

well, the novelty will wear off for everything tho.. cars, homes, ipod, etc.. it\'s just that if u don\'t buy the product that u so want then u\'ll probably always want it.. if the remote from ebay works then the price will be much cheaper and it seems like a small price to pay to make one happy for a while (or for the rest of his/her life).. :D

As I understood from Flipspeed he has to order the remote first so the most you can get today is the blank key. Am I missing something or you were thinking of getting the remote from somewhere else? :(Anyway if you can get both of them today post the results. I know I\'m interested in this... ;)

Sorry didn\'t mean to put the key down... it was not my intention... ummm... can i see? can i see? :D

The key is relatively cheap compared to the VW/Audi key... I believe it was 275 plus tax or something crazy like that.

To those who have completed this little find... good job! I\'m sure more will follow :)

Still don\'t know why you need the RX-8 remote.

I\'m currently trying the 06 Mazda6 hatch/wagon remote b/c it doesn\'t have the extra button for trunk release and it\'s cheaper.($130.09 TM3/taxes included)

Oh and just found out the 06 Mazda6 sedan remote is $30.85 TM3/taxes included.

I\'ll let everyone know the outcome.

I still don\'t get it.
So the flip key and the remote are separate entities, why can\'t
we just program the key to work along with our other keys,
why do we need to buy a 3rd remote?

(pics please)

look at the picture of the key and remote on the ebay link I posted.. the key is a flip key.. ie, the key is hidden until you press a button and then presto, the key flips up from inside the remote.. the mazda3 oem remote does not have a ditch where the key can hide in.. thus, you have to buy a new remote and a new key.. and I just saw the pieces this morning at MoT.. joe showed me the two pieces.. they\'re separated.. after you program them then you can put them together..

Yes please definately do that; just to inquire.
This would include the key being cut at the dealership as well? Or can I just have it mailed and get it cut at like say Canadian Tire? I have no problem coming there but I\'m in Hamilton and working in Sauga so I\'m just curious. But I\'ll definately get one Joe

(and any word on the CAI? If im there might as well pick that up too)

Before Mazda Canada realizes the demand of these flipkeys is rising and decides to mark up the price, BUY NOW :D

I got the keyring in no problem, took a little bit of effort tho...

I found that with this remote I can unlock all doors by press and hold of the unlock button, no need to press twice like the fob.

I stretched out the ring so that it looked like a spring and the ring went in without any problems.. then I took a pair of needle nose pliers to help me squeeze the ring back into it\'s original shape.. I was afraid of scratching up the bottom of the remote..

Hi Flipspeed. Can you give me an idea of how much it would cost to ship a remote and a blank flip key for the Mazda3 to Vancouver BC?

We may have a few members over here who would be interested.

As for payment, will paypal work or would you prefer some other method.

i had this idea earlier but unfortunately regular set of relays and all won\'t do since the opening/closing of windows is governed through the ECU and one would need a more complex logic circuit and that equals more $.. so i guess it\'s doable but at what cost.. doesn\'t seem to be a DIY mod :zzz

you have to program all 3 remotes at the same time.. if you don\'t then the one(s) you don\'t re-program will be left inoperable.. I didn\'t program one of my remotes the first time I did it and it was left inoperable so I had to do it all over again with all 3 remotes..

Hey Pearl, I am having same problem as you did on my 05. The remote was programmed without any problem, but I can\'t seem to program the key. Do you know what did Joe do to fix your problem? I asked one of the sevice advisors he said I can\'t program the key myself and will need the dealer to program it. He gave me a quote of $90 for programming.

Thanks.

I was unable to get all 3 remotes programmed at the same time. Every time I programmed the third remote, it would deactivate one of the other two already programmed remotes. Is there a limit of 2 remotes that you can program?

Honestly, I don\'t see how that can be done. The receiver does not detect the trunk release signal.

You would also have to get a new trunk lock with an actuator to detect the signal and work with the factory keyless entry module.

It works on my 06. The only difference is that I can only program a total of 2 remotes, so one of my original remotes is now useless. I suspect that is the same for all 06\'s.

Well what I did was program the new remote first. Upon programming it, one of the other remotes were de-programmed. So I re-programmed the one that was de-programmed and it de-programmed the new remote that I just programmed! This basically went back and forth a few times until I gave up.

Has anyone had this happen to their flipkey... at first it ran out of batteries - the little LED would not light up when a button was pressed. Cracked it open, pulled out the battery and sure enough it was flat.
Just picked up a new battery, threw it in, and now the LED is blinking non-stop. Pressing the buttons has not effect on the LED or the doors...
I'm yet to try to reprogram the flipkey - the remote control part of it - but I'm just curious if any of you guys has something similar happen.

*Update*
After about an hour or two the blinking stopped and the remote started working again with out having to be reprogrammed. Perhaps that's "normal" behavior for changing a battery?

1. The link does not work anymore

2. Has anyone figured out how to configure trunk release on their flipkey?

you can get the trunk release to work with the flip key. The catch is, it doesn't work via the trunk button, instead when you double tap the lock button it opens the hood.
As of yet, I haven't see a workaround to have the trunk button work.

Sorry to ressurect a dead thread, but I figure it fits better here than anywhere else.

I purchased the mazdaspeed3 flip key for my 3, and contacted the dealer about having it cut (I haven't picked up my car yet). The dealer told me it'd be about $80 to cut and program the key. When I told them that I would program it myself, they said that it wasn't possible... and I quote

"our key has to be programed with the start codes for the car. Mazda will only give the start codes once the vehicle is hooked up to our computers ON LINE. Then they email them to us. And we program the key. Takes 1 hour.
You will need a mazda dealer for this 100%."

Now this sale person has been very good so far, so I would just like to think that he is misinformed... can anybody confirm that this procedure still works on the 08 models? Thanks!
