first off, i love the 3. absolutely have no complaints. but recently ive been very very interested in purchasing the new GTI in black of coarse, with the manual. i know the DSG is the fututre of trannies and that it shifts faster then any manual out there, but i like to row my own gears. Going for a test drive in the next couple of days. ill let you know about my impressions.
VW has had some issues the last couple of years, but this new GTI is georgeous is my books. Please convince me to not buy, or to go for the GTI.

First of all; good luck finding a dealership to let you take one for a test drive.
I liked Bramgate and the guy gave me a GTI DVD.
I\'m a Vdub girl at heart and forever will be; I\'m having a hard time spending 36.. 37xxx whatever on a VW at 5.9% financing. Dont get me wrong... I absolutely FELL IN LOVE with this car (look for my thread!) but like I mentioned as well; after the test drive I got back into my 3 and I felt absolutely NO REGRET.
I\'m waiting this one out (for a while atleast anyways..)

New male GTI owners are more likely to have erectile dysfunction than any other drivers. I think I read that somewhere on the Internet.
Seriously though if you have an itch then go and scratch it. Take a test drive.
I assume you bought your 3 new, so unless you can get close to what you paid for your 3 on a trade you will be pissing a lot of money down the drain. What happens when a car come out that you like more than the GTI? There will always be a car you like more than the one you have.
Test drive it, get a price, look at insurance rates and figure out how much more you will be spending on the GTI, if you can afford it go for it.

First production vehicles always have issues.
Wait till the next run and decide then.

Canada is getting a Rabbit; stupid name change IMO.
What VW should have done is bring the POLO or even the LUPO. People are going crazy for small cars now... stupid stupid VW. No.. instead. Lets make a $100,000 VW that NO ONE wants (besides me).

Yeah, whoever it was in VW who thought it would be a good idea to create a $100K VW should be fired......what an idiotic idea :sarc
Personally I\'ve never liked VW\'s......even the new GTI doesn\'t interest me. I have had too many friends with new VW\'s have crazy problems with them. Not the usual window regulator problems, but engine replacement after only 5000km type of problems.
Meh, as others have said, drive it, and if you like it go for it.

You have a 2004 paid off and you want to get into payments again? Think of what you can do with the extra money. It isn\'t like you are spending tons of money on mantaining an older car as you have stated you love your 3. I think you can/should do some serious saving right now maybe invest or buy a house if you don\'t have one.
My 2 cents.

This should be moved to the right section.

Saving would be a good idea and im doing that as well, i know there are people out there that have a home already at my age (24), but im just not one of them. i put money away each month in case some ti e in the future the girlfriend and i want to put down a downpayment. On the other hand i could put some of the money im saiving each month into the mazda 3. i have a few mods already, im just left wanting a little more power. I was going to get a turbo, but changed my mind, this 2.3L motor was not meant for boost on stock internals; even if its low boost 5-6psi. too many people are having lots and lots of problems. the mazdaspeed3 would be another car i\'d consider if they\'d ever bring the damn thing to the market ( it seems as if ive been talking about the mazdaspeed3 ever since i got my car in 04). MK, did you any problems getting the dealer to let you take one out.

Things I miss about my VW:
1) the VR6 engine
things I do not miss:
1) MY VW
2) problems
3) maintenance costs
4) did I mention the problems?
5) I think I mentioned the maintenance costs...
:hoho
I would definitely wait for the new GTI to work out some of it\'s kinks because there will be some for sure. Even then I personally would be reluctant to ever touch another VW no matter how powerful or sweet it looks.

Don\'t feel too bad. In many cases it\'s the \"impulse buy\" that distinguishes the male of the species.

Sorry Fang!
My suggestion is... don\'t test drive it. If you do, it could mean a lot of trouble for you. ;)
The 2.0T is one amazing engine, DSG is argueably the best transmission money can buy. Chip that baby and you can easily get 250+ hp.
The MarkV golf has been out in Europe for awhile, so it\'s a proven platform.
