Just wondering how many of you (with white exteriors) experience small orange spotting on your paint. I\'m fortunate enough to have run into a good cleaner wax (Meguiars) that removes it, but not without some serious effort. The spots are gradually multiplying and are becoming harder to remove. I constantly wash my car and wax it every other month.
Is this a symptom of a defective paint/ paint job?

thanks.

It\'s commonly called *Rail Dust*. It also comes form brake dust and from your exhuast at the back of your car.

Use a clay bar to get it out. Then a good wax to cover and protect your paint. It will always be there (easy to spot on a white car of course). But occasional clay bar and waxing will keep it away.

Grabbed this from another site...

Rail dust- is actually tiny, sharp bare metal shavings that can adhere and imbed to the paint finish and cause serious damage when left untreated. Over 70% of new vehicles are transported from the factory using the rail system, therefore rail dust is present on new vehicles. There are many instances where a vehicle travels or is parked near a railroad in which case the finish is infected with rail dust.

Brake dust- similar to rail dust, brake dust is also in the form of tiny, sharp bare metal shavings. In recent years, asbestos brake pads were replaced with metallic brake pads, which are actually brake pads made from tiny metal or metallic shavings. Anytime a vehicle is braking; brake dust is disbursed into the air and onto the paint finish. Since the brake dust is now actually tiny particles of bare metal, this form of brake dust can seriously damage the paint finish when left untreated.

Industrial fallout- is the general term used for pollution and can be found in many forms. Eventually, pollution settles onto the paint finish of all vehicles and can cause serious damage when left untreated.

Tree sap, Road tar, Bug residue, Paint overspray, acid rain deposits and other contaminants that adhere and imbed into the paint finish can cause damage when left untreated.

so, no, You don\'t have defective paint.. I got it too... almost everyone does.

Thanks for the awesome info SABIO. Where can I get this \"clay bar\" that you refer to? Does Crappy Tire sell it?
thanks again.

They sell some at Canadian tire. $25 I believe... Mothers Clay bar, spray lube and a little bottle of wax.
Most automotive stores should carry it.

Good luck! Took me 1 full hour of rubbing on my 3, and with washing and waxing took me 3 full hours. And with 2 white cars? Have fun!:D

I use clay everyday and I\'m constantly amazed how much gunk it pulls off a car. You\'ll love it.

i used a \'rubbing compound\' made by turtle wax that i bought a crappy tire to get all those dust spots off my white p5. it works really well and you don\'t have to scrub too hard. it also gets out all kinds of scuffs. all for under $10!:)
