i was just wondering if its okay to use 5w40 in our cars, a few friends told me that using 5w40 wouldn\'t hurt my car, but to just change it back before the winter. Thing is apparently if u put it in ur car they will void ur warranty. so what should i do switch to 5w40 , buy another bottle of mobil 1 5w20 or 0w20 or just stick with the engine retarding mazda oil?

I\'m using the Motul 5w40 right now. Its been in the engine for about 2k now and i\'ve not yet experienced any problems yet (knock on wood). And for sure i feel the difference after the oil change. At least after the engine is hot it still performs pretty well.

I switched over to 5W30 synthetic over 6 months ago with no problems. The engine doesn\'t tick anymore like it did before.

Using the 5W40 in our engine\'s is really your choice. Keep in mind that the oil cap and the owner\'s manual tells you to use 5W20. I\'m keeping my car so I\'m looking long term engine life by using a thicker oil.
