Its my first time posting on this site, I just got my 3 one week ago. Its a 2004 GT/GFX with the 4spd auto tranny. I\'ve tried a few 0-60 runs in a secluded area and without brake torqing and without using tiptronic I\'ve managed the 8 second barrier which seems to be on par with what magazines are testing. Last night, I found out the car will not shift for you at redline, it goes to the limiter. My father has a 06 530i and even his tiptronic will shift for you.

Moral of the story? Well last night i tried a 0-60mph run, torque breaking at about 1500rpm, and using tiptronic shifting when the needle just touches the redline. I timed the car at roughly 7 seconds. This is unofficial, and I will post an official time soon. Not as good as a manual, but thats one excellent tiptronic.

All I gotta say is that Civics, can stay on the dealer lots...

Interesting. I wouldn\'t be surprised if the 4-speed was faster than the 5-speed auto.

I\'ve noticed the \"auto\" mode its alittle lazy, 60KM you are already in 4th. But in \"stick\" mode she really moves

yeah!

in auto mode, the car just wants to get to 4th (04-05)
but the manumatic is pretty peppy!

take advantage of the 4 gears,

With my driving even in drive I\'m still in 2nd or 3rd at 60km/h. :) You guys must be light of the throttle. :D

I\'ve been driving manuals for the past 20 years with occasional use of an A/T, now my M3 is A/T as what my wife wants. Whenever I use an A/T before, I find myself heavy on the gas pedal because I am looking for ooomph and hummm on the engine. With my M3, I can use the manual shift feature if I wanted the engine to really pull the car especially when the A/C is on. Since I\'ve been using this car for almost a month, I already got used to the way the tranny works so I\'d rather stick with the way it is. I missed manual tranny, because it makes my left leg usable....:sarc

in an automatic tranny car, putting your left foot on the brake and holding it down while stepping on the gas with your right to bring the rpms up.

has anyone tried neutral dropping or torque breaking in the auto 3 yet?

My friend beats the hell out of his probe, but when ever we getem to do neutral drop or torque break it doesnt take off... it looks like the wheels lock and then it goes slowly then the rpms go wayyy down....

Neutral to drive??? Don\'t ever do that. You\'re forcing the gears to mesh suddenly. You can rip apart your tranny doing that, plus the sudden engaging can be detrimental to your engine.

Repeated torque braking can be detrimental also, if you do it at every stop light. A few RPM and a quick release won\'t do much harm. Its like pulling up a steep hill or towing something. Your car raises rpms to engage the torque converter and move. Thats why torque braking isn\'t such a bad thing every once in a while.

I just returned the rental I had (HA HA HA!!! Remembers last night\'s meet at DM & S) and the auot tranny is garbage. Slow to respond, the Tip is crap. Im sure glad I didn\'t get an auto, I wouldn\'t love the car as much as I do.
