am asked all the time \"What Color Temperature Should I Get?\" and its so hard to expain color correctly, so I did this. I took one of each bulb type we carry: 3000K, 4500K, 5000K, and 6000K and fired them up and took a picture of them with a white background all using the same camera in the same area to try to get the best idea on color temperature. This should help you guys in making your selections.

Please also keep in mind these are just shots of the bulb fired up and there will be a color shift when installed in the projector headlight

Apparently it is...

62. (1) When on a highway at any time from one-half hour before sunset to one-half hour after sunrise and at any other time when, due to insufficient light or unfavourable atmospheric conditions, persons and vehicles on the highway are not clearly discernible at a distance of 150 metres or less, every motor vehicle other than a motorcycle shall carry three lighted lamps in a conspicuous position, one on each side of the front of the vehicle which shall display a white or amber light only, and one on the rear of the vehicle which shall display a red light only. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 62 (1).

I remember when I put yellow caps over my Civic\'s headlamps back before they had the coated bulbs.

Cost me $110 courtesy of York Region Police.

Geez. Does my 5000K kit really look that green?!? During the warm up time maybe, but after they have been on for a minute, I don\'t think so...

How long did you guys wait after turning on the bulb before snaping those pictures? I know your original post says \"just shots of the bulb fired up\" but is that \"turn on the bulb and take the picture right after?\" because I can tell you that my 5000K kit takes about 60 seconds to reach it\'s true colour. It may be greener than the rest, but I don\'t think it\'s THAT green...

Well I waited about 30 secs, the problem was I could not allow to bulb to get too too hot as it was just being supported by cardboard.

It will be a little more blue and less green however it does give an idea :)

haha ok... I knew the colour didn\'t seem right.

Great idea tho (wrt the picture comparison). I\'m sure it will help many future-buyers.

I really wanted the 5K kit but that looks too green. If it even looks close to that I\'ll be upset :(

But remember, once the bulbs \"warms up\" the green tint is gone.

Exactly, it only looks like that during start up then shifts to a white/blue.

I\'m planning to get HID\'s for my car, and I\'m leaning towards getting 8k, will I get pulled over for that? I\'ve always liked the blue and 6k just doesn\'t seem like it would produce what I want.

Without seeing them myself, I would have to guess and say \"yes\".

They won\'t unless you show them that it\'s built into the housing.

Is it possible to get 8k Hid\'s and get away with it if I get pulled over?
I want to get the 8k HID\'s but the only thing thats holding me back is the cop trouble.

you will not get pulled over for 8K unless

1) you have other mods on your car (ie, really dark tint, loud exhaust)
2) You are driving like an ass and deserve to get pulled over
3) you are not \"canadian\" (lol this one is for majic, all in good fun/humour :P)

If all you have on the car (mod wise) are your 8K hids then most likely you will not get pulled over. 8K in projector housing doesnt look the same as 8K in a reflective housing. The colour is somewhat toned down in projector housing as there are no \"hot spots.\"

But at the end of the night, it is up to the cops discretion . You might get a ticket if he needs to fill a quota OR maybe just a warning.

btw: Devin do you have any 3000K HID fogs ?

:p

If 8K doesn\'t look that blue then does that mean 6k in a projector housing is just PURE white and no hint of blue at all?

Because I see in the Benz, BMW etc.. they\'re suppose to have 6K in there but it shows blue.

Should check out this link that\'s posted on these forums,
http://www.intellexual.net/hid.html

Very informative and has pictures showing how distracting 8K can be on other drivers. As well, it shows how installing 8K will not have much lighting gains over halogen. Is it even worth getting HIDs if there is no improvement?

stock Benz/BMW/Audi etc.. all have about 4300K the reason it can look a little blue is because of the projector.

6000K does look blue take a look here:

I use 5000K and it's awsome, it's not nearly as green as in that picture, it's pure white with a very slight hint of blue approaching 6000K but mostly white. I got it cause it's supposed to be the brightest of the colour temps

I don't know what the HID's in the Infinity FX35 are, but my buddy had a recall on his because they are to bright. You could maybe use that as a gauge.

Devin, Whats the cost for a set of 6000k bulbs only for my MS3? I like the way the stock HIDs look when I turn it on, but after a few minutes it seems to go a little bit yellow. Also how many K's are the stock HIDs on my MS3?

6000k is pure white with a slight tint of blue, the only reason you see the "blue" color in acuras and mercedes is the "cut-off" shield that is sharp and bends a light so much that bluish or sometimes even purple color appears.

i was doing some reading and it stated that the blue in the light exhausts your eyes. i'm interested in getting the 6000k but will it really affect you if u take a drive from toronto to montreal?

6000k really isn't that blue...it's more of a white with a blue tinge. I am sure you'll be fine.

He is right, I remember passing by an bmw m3 in the parking lot through the speed bump, that "blue" cut off blinded me for good 5 seconds almost killed my eyes lol. But really its not that bad on Mazda3 and looks like factory.

If you're going for brightness i would say 6000K but looks wise i would say 8000k
