ok, here is the info

it is a 99 Civic (4 door)
140K
5-speed

she was told that the
shift boot of the transmission is leaking,
i thought a shift boot was the thing that grey guy wore as a hat at the eastside meets

how could this be leaking?

also, does anyone know how much it will cost to replace a timing belt (and water pump) on this car?

There is another shift boot under the shift mechanism where there is grease. It\'s probably ripped due to hard shifting. On my 99 EK I had to replace it once.

As far as timing belt and water pump goes don\'t go aftermarket. Give Sisley Honda a call at 905-695-8887 ask for Leo tell him Joe from MOT referred you.;)

Check the Auto Trader for the pricing to see if $6000 is a reasonable asking price.

Another Civic for Sale on the Buy/Sell section for $4999.

If you want a Civic cheaper than that, send me an email. ;)

I agree with Flip about not going aftermarket with the timing belt and water pump. I\'d also be a little weary that at 140K it hasn\'t been done yet as from what I remember Honda recommends it at around 100K.

thx for the info guys!
and my friend K says thanx too!

she is buying the car from her boyfriend\'s parents,
and she seems to trust them,

i think she talked to a dealership, and they said like 500 for the pump and timing belt
and like 150 for the leak in the boot, but, it will depend on what is the problem down there

the price seems ok against autotrader prices,

define ok compared to autotrader prices.

If your kid\'s girlfriend is buying your car, shouldn\'t you give her a better deal than that?

just wondering.
