View Full Version : Uping your Post Count? Is this right?

SonicBoy

What's the rule about uping your post count?

Is it OK to go back and dig up old posts from 2 years ago, slap a comment in there just for the heck of saying something?

I like re-runs over Chritsmas some times to catch up but come on people.

Is there not enough to discuss that we have to start doing this?

Should the counts be removed as a result of doing this?

Skarboro, back me on this.

Chris, I'm with you on this one.

See "Broli" in the dictionary when you are looking up post ore.

I was assuming all those "back from the dead" posts were just a mistake or something.

if the post brings back some value (ie. same problem happened to someone today as it did 2yrs ago and never got resolved) then it makes sense but what the person in question did wasn't really called for.. so just carry on with daily posts and if you need to dig in deeper in your search and bump a post here and there then that's fine...

and RedRaptor.. lol on Broli :D

I've always been for hiding the post count display or removing it altogether. It does nothing for message forums but encourage post wh0ring. I'm guilty of that affect.

However, to somewhat aid in cutting down post wh0ring, mods ARE merging multiple-consecutive-posts as we find them.

I agree if it has value... It should be brought back up again. But yea... Yesterday kinda got under my skin too.

That was annoying yes.

And killing post counts is a good idea. Totally useless stat.

Post count can be a useful stat to keep. Having a higher post count can usually gauge how active a member is in the online community. Not always accurate, but still useful.

Being a postwhore myself (not on here, but BCMazda3.com) I can tell you I know where most useful posts are on the forums and can generally find them quickly when needed.

Being an active member means nothing. High post counts mean you have nothing better to do than live on an online forum. Your social skillz include typing and eating cold pizza. You do not actually make contributions to the growth of the forum or to other members knowledge of the vehicle.
You come here to socialize and feel self-important because your dreary life holds no hope for you.

My dreary life holds plenty of hope but I still like to go to online forums, socialize, and feel self-important. :D

sabio chill bro!

i personally like post counts . . .
shut up i know what you are all thinking

it is a good basis to know if a member is credible,
it is just more information about someone, and that is useful
at least at some points!

Well there are worse things than being an online forum post whore.

You could be the douche that comes on and flames people he doesn't even know in real life accusing them of posting just to feel self-important and lead dreary lives.

Meh. Pwned. Go home, son.

Wow, I missed so much drama while I was gone, and Sabio's back?!? Regarding the post counts, I personally could care less whether they are displayed or not.

I would like to see the post count get killed just so I don't have to read another lame-ass post by someone accusing someone else of trying to increase their post count.

Moderators, can we close this off since this seems to be beating a very dead horse.

Why is this a dead horse? I think its a very legitimate discussion.

I don't. I'm only posting in it to ironically boost my post count. :D

well certainly we are not discussing what the issue originally presented was!

mods will be dilligent and stop the bumpage of threads for no apparent reason.

ridicilous post whoring will not be tolerated

if at any point you see something you dont like, report it to a mod/admin, thru the system or thru a pm
