Im a bit confused, I have a 2007 M3 GT, so the engine is the 2.3, as far as I understand the engine will rev to 7100 rpm, but the redline is at 6500 rpm, so whats the deal with this, all the other cars i had had the redline at the limit, not before it.

Well some cars allow you to 'bury' the needle a little bit. The red starts basically where the area of high rpm can be harmful to your car.

your car do not have as much power as at 7100 than at 6500

Yes but when you shift you wanna be in the sweet spot for the next shift. So if you shift at 6800ish it means your next gear will be dropped closer to the optimal point in the powerband.

The best way to tell when to shift is by the seat of your pants!

Maybe just me, but I noticed loss of power after 6500, i noticed even more at the track yesturday. Specially at cornering. I got its best when I kept it between 5500-6500. i thought that was the best window in order to play with its torque and decent HP atthe same time...

The rev limiter kicks in around 7000 rpm but most of our engine's torque is available around 3000 - 5500 rpm.

Our manual transmission gear ratios are not as well-tuned as some other cars IMO - I find the low gears are too tall relative to each other (1-2 is the biggest culprit), and the high gears too short (4-5 is the annoying one there).

I like 2nd gear how it is though. 5th gear though can definitely be taller.

I think first gear is a little too tall.... 2nd gear is perfect as is third.... 4th is lacking a little and the same can be said with 5th... mind you.... the car has a lot of torque for what it is... so the car really pulls in any gear!

the rev limiter kicks in a 7250 IRRC.
