View Full Version : Mazda Steering Wheel

Does anybody know if the mazda steering wheel is the same throughout the line up (mazda 3,5,6 and the rx-8) They all look the same, but that doesnt mean they are. Can anybody help?

They are different... only slightly but they are all different..

example: the wiring harness for the radio/cruise control that comes in a Mazda6 if not the same as the one in the 3

The Mazda 3 steering wheel is very similar to the RX8 if I'm not mistaken.

I'm pretty sure every last one of them feels nicer than the Sunfire steering wheel. :)

The Nazda 3 steering wheel is very similar to the RX8 if I'm not mistaken.

we have a new car company? Nazda??? :D

but if the steering wheels are interchangable, Miata's one is nice.

Dude!! Don't get me started on that!!! The base model Sunfire wheel felt like it was made of nerf!!!

The GT is different though. It's got a leather wrapped wheel that feels really nice. It's just a bit bigger and a tad thinner than I'd like it to be.

Come on now, GM is working on using better materials! My leather wrapped steering wheel isn't all that bad. I'm not sure what the airbag cover part is made of though lol.

As for swapping wheels...I'm sure the mounting point will be the same but like Biz said, the harness will most likely be different.

Like I said... the leather wheel in my Sunfire felt great. It was just the size that could have used a little improvement.

Just from Observation, compared to the Mazda3 Steering Wheel:

Mazda6 - Narrower "middle" Body (where the airbag is). IMO doesn't look as sporty as the 3's
Mazda5 - Other than the steering wheel controls, it looks very similar
Miata - Cosmetically very different, a bit more shiney, wouldn't look right in a 3 IMO
RX-8 - Similar, Red ones have red leather on the wheel. I think the diameter might be smaller too.

The one thing I don't like on my 2007 Mazda 3 Sport GT is the feel of the steering wheel. It's just not thick enough *that's what she said* (had to say it before someone else did).

I want to wrap it in leather. Any suggestions?

leather is porous.. so is sheepskin.. go with latex, they work best..

Right now Im driving a loaner 3 (base sport) while my tranny is getting looked at and the friggin plastic steering wheel makes my hands hurt

Had my plastic '3 steering wheel wrapped. Feels solid and is thicker than the standard factory leather-wrapped steering wheel.
