I was able to get a set of Prokits for extremely cheap (yes they are the real thing) and now I want to get a set of shocks as well before swapping out the stock suspension. I'm torn between the new FSD or the Sport/Yellows. I've read both reviews on TireRack (http://www.tirerack.com/suspension/testing.jsp) but still can't decide. Help a girl out!

Koni Yellow and FSD is for different application. one if for track/race (stiff all the time), the other is daily/spirit driving.

One reason I'm confused which to go with is because of Koni's (http://www.koni-na.com/display.cfm?mt_id=1&mod_id=0&mak_id=25&submit=Continue) two statements under each Koni FSD kit;

For 2100 4040 @ U$675 KONI online Price, "FSD kit must be used with stock height suspension."

For 2150 4040 @ U$852 (FSD+Prokits combo), "FSD Eibach Suspension Kit. Lowers front 36mm, rear 30mm."

It can't possibly be two different sets of FSD shocks? I'm thinking it must just be marketing.

That is a little weird that KONI does that huh??

In reality, the drop on the Pro Kit is mild enough for the FSD's, but officially the Yellows are the shocks for lowered applications.

Let me know if you need pricing on either :)

The FSD shocks are one of a kind. They don't make two different shocks for their two different packages (with and without Prokit combo).

source (http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=70070.0) supposed Koni rep;

"Yes the FSD shocks in the FSD/Pro-kit are the same ones that you can purchase as a set, 2100-4040.

Thank you,

Stoney Hamilton"

From personal experience...Koni statement is Bullshiznat..

my old car was a Acura 1.6 EL, I used Koni Reds, Koni Reds stated that these shocks cannot be used on a drop greater than 1.5 inches.

Well proved that wrong, my car was dumped 3.5 inches, shocks held up fine for 30,000KM and still ran strong after I sold them.

Koni is an excellent shock, I think the FSD can work with certain lowering springs, its all about the spring rate, some example that I think will work with the FSD are Prokits, H-techs, Tanabe, Canuck Motorsports to name a few.

as a daily driver the FSD would work, but with minmal tracking,

for full street/track vehicle look into the Koni Yellow

the last time we spoke to a Koni rep he said these FSD shocks should not be lowered more than 1.5" and they are a perfect match with Eibach Prokit.

It really depends when i can get the coilovers. As of right now i have no update as to when they are coming. If they do'nt come soon, i'm just going to keep them and put on sportlines.

Sounds hot, let me know what you're gonna do - I'm still up in the air wether or not I want to do the Koni Sport Kit or the Yellows/Pro-Kit. I don't like the rake with the Progress. Thanks Pearlescent.

comparing with lowering springs + stock shocks!
how does the sport or fsd compare?
does the sport rode harsher on its lightest setting and does the fsd ride lighter?

because i want to get shocks, but i don't want fsd if there to mellow/little over than stock feel, but don't want a harsh bashing feel neither!

If you don't want a stiff ride, go with the FSD's.

FSD shocks are like upgraded stock shocks and they will be more comfortable. Yellows are a lot stiffer and should be used if you were going to track the car. For strictly daily driven cars, FSD shocks should be more appropriate.

yeah i guess fsd is the better choice.,,
but how stiff is is the stiffest setting for fsd...
like a medium or lowest setting of yellows?

Once again, FSD and yellows are different shocks. FSD let you cruise comfortably (without feeling much of a bump) while yellows let you feel the road (and thus each bump). For yellows, no matter which setting you are at, you are still supposed to be feeling the road and each bump. Stiff setting: harsher ride. Soft setting: less harsh. I don't think anyone has actually had much experience on the FSD on the 3's since stock is not really available yet here in North America for the 3's.

ic, is it stiff during the speed bumps? or does it stiff up then also?
i hate the bounce back when i go over the bump!

^^ you got new rims? i thought you got the fast wheels?

ya... ppl like vlad made me itchy.. so i got new rims.. lol..

it really depends wt speed u go thru the speed bump and how hight the speed bumps are... but sometimes the bumpy road will make my whole body shake... lol.. i usually go slowly on a speed bump and it seems just fine..
