hey guys,

i lost one of my car keys with the keyless pad. so now im left with one and that one is running low on battery. the guys at the dealership is charging a whopping 2 to 3 hundred bucks to replace it with labour charge to reprogram.

- does it really have to be reprogrammed at the dealership or can anyone do it?
- if i take the batteries out to replace it with a new one, do i need to reprogram it again?
- i wanna get an extra key with the keyless pad just in case i lose it AGAIN... anyone with hookups or can help me reprogram if necessary?

my friend with his tsx didnt need any reprogramming when he replaced the battery. he just took out the old bat and put in a new bat, works fine after. can anyone clarify for me please? thanx

o ya, its a MAZDA3 GT sport =)

1. replace battery on remaining fob.
2. pm flippy about a flip key (key and key fob in one). Around $80 i think.
3. Use the flip key to taunt me since i still don't have one.

Flip key $76 taxes in.

Programming is necessary and in your case has to be done by the service department($98). Mainly b/c you need at least 2 sets of keys/remotes to add a 3rd one.

Since you only have 1 set the service department will have to contact Mazda and get a new code to put into your transmitter module.

Chuckie buy a flip key already!

so if i buy from flippy for 76 dollars and i think they were going to charge me half an hour labour so thats half of 98 right? then 76+50= 126 is all i pay? that sounds reasonable =) lets hope thats the case cuz if i lose my only remaining key, im done for! lol

exactly the reason why everyone should buy a 3rd key (no need for the transmitter), program it to start the car, and store it away in a safe place ..just in case one of the keys are lost, you can program the replacement.

what's the cost of a spare key joe? $30-something? cheap insurance.

Yup, just a regular key is $30 plus tax.

don't you need both keys to program the key? unless you have the code the dealer gave you originally

The key code is for the cut only. As for the programming you do need at least 2 keys. If you have only one then that's where you have to get the programming done at the dealer.

Noob question - Flipkeys are like the switchblade style key and remote transmitter in one unit right?

Where do I get this?

$US 7.99 - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-MAZDA-5-MAZDA-6-TRANSPONDER-KEY_W0QQitemZ250503726712QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors _Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item3a532f8678&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14

I think this one should work with M3. Seller is from Ontario and you might try to pick it up if he is from same city with you.
