before you go on about it being an auto or whatever else you want to say... there were a few reasons why it had to be an auto..

so whatever... either way the auto will outperform either of your cars.

what you didn't catch was the auto is with the new paddle shift system...

anyway...

No photoshop filters were used. The only filters I ever use are UV filters and circular polarizers.

I like manual transmissions as much as any other manual junkie but this the 6 speed ZF unit in the 335 is one that I don't mind driving at all. It's incredibly smooth, and shifts instantly. No lag between the shifts, and all the downshifts are perfectly rev-matched.

Well for an auto system it shifts so smoothly and quickly that there have been reported stock times of 4.9 - 5.1 for a 0-60 time... which in my eyes is not too shabby

anyhoo... this is about the pics.. and I think they are sweet of the car.

from a stop sure... 80-120 would be interesting with the auto, I wouldn't be so quick to brush off the speed3. Scroll down to the 80-120 test data at http://www.ajac.ca/english/ccoty/2007/test_data.asp?lang=1

Mazdaspeed 3.9s 80-120.
Audi RS4 3.5s 80-120.
BMW 3-Series Coupé 4.0s 80-120.
BMW M Coupé 4.4s 80-120.
Shelby GT500 3.5s 80-120.
Saturn Sky Redline 5.4s 80-120.

Those were all manual transmissions

That's funny. I just saw a commercial on TV of a VW driver trying to console a BMW driver who just lost a race against a VW.

Yeah I know which one you're talking about...

it's the 2.0 Turbo Passat... vs.. a 525i BMW...

The 525 has NO BALLS. You need to at least be a 528, 535 or 550 before you feel any power in that car.

it is a funny commercial though.

I'm with you 100% on the street racing comment.

At the BubbuQ we were kicking around the idea of a TM3 day at the drag strip. :)

Looking at the specs, you've got an extra 37 hp, 20 ft-lbs of torque, but also around 500 lbs more. I wonder if my bit of track experience might trump your RWD launch advantage. Would probably be a lot of fun. :bana

his bimmer is auto, not sure what they do but the mannual is good for 13.6 so he will run say 14.0 flat or better all day long whereas you'd have to nail your run perfect. it would be interesting for sure under controled conditions, the track would be interesting too given bmw didn't put an LSD in as to not have the car destroy the outgoing m3

Lol we can pick extremes all day long, and you're right this thread is about the pictures so this is my last comment. C&D got 14 flat for the ms3 and 13.6 for the stick 335i coupe. 80-120 the ms3 was a sniff behind an Audi RS4 and other cars costing way more... so you're right about them being in a different class as I paid $29k (before tax) and a 335i w sport and auto is $54,900 before freight/tax etc. so performance wise didn't seem to me like that extra few 10ths in a straightline and a comparable roll/track performance was worth another 25,000 in my books.

anyways, nice looking car and good pics

SIM SIMMA
05-01-2007, 12:12 PM
again it was for shits and giggles...

different class of cars completely. Props to the MS3 for being able to perform so well. I personally would not buy one as I would probably go with a speed6 instead but again that is personal choice.

i have yet to drive a speed3 nor do i have the desire... but the overall feel of cars makes a difference too. And perhaps spending 20-5K more adds that... whatever... I was quite content with my 3... it wasn't a speed but I was happy with what it was.

If you want to spend 25K more for a BMW more power to you.. if you don't it's your choice as well.

At the end of the day it's your personal choice... and whatever makes you happy is all that counts. Who the eff cares what people think.. I sure as hell don't.

TheProfessor
05-01-2007, 02:20 PM
No offense to all the MS3 owners here but seriously, any of you even thinking about comparing these two cars on any level other than the number of wheels they have is retarded. The 335 is simply a better car in pretty much every respect, and for the price it should be. For the money there are few cars, if any, that can touch the 335 for overall driving pleasure, comfort, and performance.

Damn, Jobes, when can I drive that sucker again.....soooooo nice.

Xenon... the original order was for a coupe but they were selling so well they had to change it to an E90... and at one point I almost didn't get that. Everything worked out though ;)

Fang... the paddles shift quickly and smoothly with rev matching to boot. They shift the same as if you use the shift knob. If you were driving spiritly I would recommend using the shift knob only because the paddles would be odd to use while going into turns. Bottom line... the paddle system is awesome... although a novelty. I don't use them but they were only an extra $100.

maj... so far you are the only one that cleaned the windshield while using the paddle shifters :P

I've never really used them but I would agree that it is a novelty feature. As Jeremy calls them "Flappy paddle shifters."

SIM SIMMA

no... that is the price... auto w/ step is $1600

auto with paddle shifters is $1700... BUT you need to have the sport package also selected as an option...

it is fun feature to use every now and then but the paddle shifters on an M3 with the true sequential gear box.... those are not just a novelty feature and do not turn with the wheel... they stay in place.

ahhh...I get it.
So the paddles on the M3 do NOT rotate with the steering wheel?
But isn't it better if the paddles rotate with the wheel so that it's always at 9 & 3 of the wheel where your hands should be?

i'd rather have a 4 door 335i, get an LSD, coilover shocks and play with the turbos to get about 400whp for less money. factory fi will have lots of potential, the old m3 was crazy pricey to mod and got little gains... maybe the na v8 will respond better, but the factory fi is the way to go
