View Full Version : Exhaust problem???

My exhaust was installed yesterday and when I was driving today I found that the car was idling very weird. Normally it'd be at the 750 Rpm line but now it's below it and it's not very steady. It'll go up and down to the point where it almost stalls.
I just realized this today, so is it related to the exhaust. Should I take it back?
Thanks,

I doubt it's exhaust related. *** EDIT: let me clarify that. It is exhaust related in that it's not currently set up for less backpressure, what I should have said is that it's not really a problem, it just needs to learn and adjust ECU settings ***
Did you do an ECU reset on the car after the exhaust install. I would recommend that on all MOD's, and then let the ECU learn for about 150 - 200 km after the reset. All should be fine :)

Mine idles like that too. Kinda annoying. I guess its time for me to reset it.

Yeah, what is basically happening is the ECU has adapted over time to the parameters your car has (fully stock for example). When you replace an Exhaust (or other drivetrain item) the ECU is still programmed to the previous specs, and in the case of an exhaust is working under less of a backpressure setting. It will adjust eventually, but it's usually faster if you reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery for a few mins. That basically sets it back to factory settings and after a few hundred kms will adapt to your new settings.

Well, it's just that and the car doesn't seem to smooth but thats prob becuz I didn't reset ECU. I guess I'll have to do that and the exhaust sound fluctuates alot. Sometimes it's loud and sometimes soft but it's the break in period so hopefully that will go away.

Thats probably the best start. I hear that when you reconnect your battery you should let your car idle for approx. 10 mins (without the AC/Heat on) for the ECU learn the new settings.
Did you extend wires for the MAF on your intake?

Good points there Zubbie :)

My Maf wires actually have some slack. So it's alright, I just left them.
By the way zubby, did you have similar problems when you had your vibrant put in?

No, the only thing I noticed when I first had my exhaust installed was the smell... which went away in a couple of days.
Although your MAF wires may have some slack, I would still suggest disconnecting the clips from the battery box, it takes two minutes and can easily save you from some major problems down the road.

I just reseted the ECU and let it idle for 10 mins. Now the idling rpm is just a tad below the normal 750 rpm. So hopefully when I drive it 2molo, it'll return to normal.
I got that horrible smell too, zubby why don't you just keep your fujita?

If it doesn't sell within the next couple of weeks, I am gonna keep it...
I miss it and I can definately feel a difference without it.

I see, you should just keep it. It's great, I was suprised that I can still hear my intake after putting in the exhaust.

When I installed my exhaust I just drove it for awhile, actually I put about 200clicks on her I was loving it so much:chuckle, but anyways smell went away real quick and never had any idling problems.I'd suggest just drive it and enjoy the sound while it lasts. It seems to get quieter as you go.

You have a magnaflow? I don't want a loud exhaust anyways so quiet down is good.
