Hey guys, any suggestions on when i should take this car on the highway? The guy in the dealership said do not go over 90 for the first 1000km. Did anybody follow the same advice?
Thanks.

Break-In Period

No special break-in is necessary, but a few
precautions in the first 1,000 km (600
miles) may add to the performance,
economy, and life of your Mazda.
- Don\'t race the engine.
- Don\'t maintain one constant speed,
either slow or fast, for a long period of
time.
- Don\'t drive constantly at full-throttle or
high engine rpm for extended periods
of time.
- Avoid unnecessary hard stops.
- Avoid full-throttle starts.

My last car, I drove to Sudbury within the first 1000kms. Never had engine problems, and that was in 1999. Z24.

With my new Mazda 3, I am at about 1700kms. So far so good. When should I get my first oil change. I know the first scheduled is 8000kms. 4000kms (half-way point) seems kinda far away. What does everyone here do?

Not too many ppl talk about whether they do their first oil change at 1000kms or 2000kms, or just wait until their regular interval (5000kms for some, 8000kms for most).

I'm curious about the first ever oil change. How long does it take for metal deposits to be released or whatever?

I did mine at 4k. the dealer was very specific about the first one being done at 4 k and then regular intervals after...6k-8k

Manual says 8K for the first change. Why would the dealership say something different? I can only think of one rea$on.

FWIW, my new Mazda3 went about 575 km in its first day, the last about 200 of which was generally at 100 kph or more. Not sure if that was a good thing or not, but 400-series highways were involved and there was not much in the way of options. The first chunk was almost entirely country roads and highways, though, so pretty much 80 kph or less (sometimes a lot less!).

I was advised to and did vary my speed as much as reasonable (i.e. 100-110-120 on the highway (where safe to do and going with the flow of traffic), and the country roads did a good chunk of speed variation on their own as one went through little towns and such. But for long stretches of no other cars on the road (i.e. nobody at all to be bothered by me going 60 in an 80 zone), I would drop my speed myself so there was some variation too.

In its first week, the car broke over the 1000 km mark. I am itching to use the cruise control now :-)

I have no idea if this was good or bad for the car.
