:chuckleit's been a month that I installed my MS CAI.

before I install it, I felt some lack of power, but since I installed
MS CAI, now my car gives me perfect feeling.

Originally, my car could not beat my friend's Subaru impreza 2.5i
but today I beat him twice.

I can say that we can definitely feel the gain of HP from CAI. :chuckle

I hope this was at a track and not on the streets!

Yup. I'd hate to see a bulldozer crushing a nice black Mazda 3. I plan on installing my CAI this Saturday.

What his imprezza 2.5 stock? My second car is the same thing, but it has a lot slower pick-up Vs. Mazda 3 even when I did not have any of the mods.

I find the imprezza has poor acceleration and requires a lot of energy to maintain 150 on the highway.

Now a WRX is totally different.

only issues I have ever run into while installing them, has been, missing hardware, a surprisingly wet filter, or the MAF housing not fully connecting to the CAI...

all of those were fixed with a little attention to detail though. CAI installs are really straight foreword.

I want one too... Should I get it installed before I pickup the car after purchase? Or should I just get the car first and wait until maybe next summer.. I think the warranty is 1 year since the date of purchase/install. But don't remember whether if you get it installed at the dealer before picking up the car, the warranty would be the same as the car? Unless that's just for accessories and not performance parts.

Search is your friend:

MS CAI Warranty (http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=17219)

I think most people here buy the intake and install it themselves and therefore have 1 yr warranty. The money that you would of spent on the install by the dealer can be used for other mods.

CAI installs are so simple that there arent many problems that can be incured with the install, the problems happen with lack of maintenence, and "freak" type incidents that have a slim percentage of happening... oh and water :)

Oh ya I remember now, the warranty is the same, my bad. I got confused with the other advantage of having the dealer installing the CAI before pickup was that you can purchase the part to include in the financing price, so you'll only pay a couple bucks per month, as opposed to the few hundred in one shot

Holy crap that thing was a bitch to install, so many hidden screws and bolts. took about 2 hours. I remember when i had my integra my injen one took about 30 mins. All in all the car sounds sweet. too bad im still breaking it in so i cant push it, but so far so good.

where did you get your CAI. Is it a genuin Mazda one? What is the cost.

I was quoted $450.00 + taxes. Seems steep.

The MS CAI is pretty steep considering it is an Injen(I believe) with a metal cover. I know mazda of Toronto offers a discount for the unit but charges an inflated price for the install.

Richmond Hill Mazda will install for something like $90.00.

Any mechanic can install it, but it takes like 1.5 hours labour.

I'm thinkin of getting one but how much extra noise does the CAI produce?

I dunno if 7 hp increase from a cai is gonna make the car feel like a rocket.

How much did you end up paying for it at the dealer?

If you want noise, why not just get an exhaust..

After I installed my injen my fuel economy increased and the gains were very noticable.

The 7 HP gain may not be a lot, but your mid to high range power arrives alot earlier.

No more bumpy shifts when the AC is on full power on a really hot day. Or, when moving at low speed from 2nd the engine just goes and does not lag.

I am so up in the air about which CAI to buy. Mazdas are over priced. I am so worried about hyrdro lock after reading some stories on other forms.

Other then that I hear K&N make one of the best ones, it is up there in price but its suppose to be better.

Any thoughts?

It's based on AEM's CAI.

If you have the right tools, you can do it yourself.

The Injen is great. From reading the posts you'll see it is next to impossible to get hydro lock with an Injen. I did get an engine light after we had a wicked long storm and my car was outside in it. After the engine dried up it went away.

Even with a hydro sheild, some moisture can still get in and trip this on the O2 sensor.

$240 for an Injen Vs $450 for MS CAI. $200 dollars buys a short shift kit or 2/3 of the way for lowering springs...

Just had the MS cai installed...so far after 2 tanks fulls and haven't noticed any change in fuel consumption still averaging 34mpg.As for performance, I have noticed quicker response to gas inputs, no feeling of increased power or torque except at higher rpms; a little better torque at 4200rpm and higher....So far no engine lights and I can't say that I even hear any difference, but that could be because my exhaust is pretty loud.
