View Full Version : Canon 40D released
What a beast. Unless you've got the cash to get a 1Ds MkIII, this is definitely the top of the class.

"AAs anticipated Canon has today announced the successor to the hugely popular EOS 30D digital SLR. how much would this camera run? $3000?
E39 was telling me the body is like 1200US!!! Which isn't to bad.
I'll let him fill you in, I'm not a camera guy.

Henry's has it listed for $1399 CAD (body only)
The 30D is now $1249 CAD (body only)
I also have a 30D which I purchased approx 1 year ago. I'm concentrating on building a solid lens collection now so this release doesn't really bother me. After I have the lenses I want, my next camera will be full frame (most likely 5D)

Likewise, better to invest in lenses. I'm still deciding whether I'll fo full frame.

Your lense collection would be very different with the 5D. Those wide angles would actually be wide angle.... I'm holding on to my Elan 7E untill I can afford the 5D because I like my lenses the way they are not 1.6X.

Yes. I'm keeping in mind that all my lenses will be wider with full frame. I'm actually looking forward to it...I like wide.
Elan 7e...nice. I have the A2e myself...the eye control is cool.

Wide is awesome (unless you are talking about women). I love the eye control, I wish they offered it on a digital SLR.

Nikon D300 and D3 (full-frame) announced today. Needless to say, my D80 will be for sale soon..

It looks pretty sweet. So tempting.
That being said - like Xerox and KenYork have said - rather get a solid lens set together right now than a new body - camera bodies come and go all the time - lens generally have a bit more pernamence. I still have my 300D (Digital Rebel 1st Gen) and it's working fine for me.
