The steering wheel doesn't have the cruise buttons on it.

so? it might just be a base model, but with the base options (steering wheels audio controls, rear speakers, power door locks, and power windows.)

btw, i SO regret not getting power windows/door locks.

I've kept an eye on this on the Mazda3Forums, it'd be a sweet mod but its soooo expensive. If the prices comes down (to half) I'll do it.

How responsive are the paddle shifters. Is it the same as the Sportmatic. I find its too slow.. Do the paddle shifters make that much difference. They do look cool though.

It's exactly the same speed. That's just how fast your computers on board decide to shift to not hurt the tranny.

They're just mounted on the steering wheel so if you want it to "shift" while doing twisties with both hands on the wheel, you can.

Hmmm... not a fan of paddle shifters, but at least it's better than the tiptronic auto stick thingy.

Still I like manual better. :)

I am afraid I go to change the radio station on my steering wheel and slip only to change my gear and the song I am listening at the same time.

Cruise is an additional option you can put in yourself and so are your power windows and mirrors i did it to mine. All parts plug and play :)

I never really understood paddle shifters in regular cars. They work great in Formula One cars because the steering wheel doesn't turn more than 3/4 of one turn - you don't have to take any hands off the wheel in any given turn. A regular car's steering wheel turns like 1 1/2 times max. In Auto-X, I would think that paddle shifters would be really difficult to control since the shifters are all over the place in the turns. Of course if you are just talking about daily driving, then one could get used to it easily. But in daily driving, I'm more of the opinion that you should just let an automatic transmission work the way it was meant to be - automatically. The only application that sounds like this would be useful for is straight-away drags, like 1/4 mile runs. But then again, is it faster to "manually" shift an auto in a 1/4 mile?

As with many things in new cars today the issue has to do more with gimmicks and less with function.

you should never shift while in a turn so there's no worry there. as well, most autoX courses are designed to be done in 2nd gear max so, once you've clicked the paddle shift to get the tranny into 2nd, you shouldn't have to click again.

the 2000-2001 maxima is one car where it was faster in the 1/4 mile when the auto tranny was manually shifted (by about 4 tenths of a second, consistently)...wouldn't know about the mazda3

That or mounting them to the actual steering colum, the part that doesn't move, and have them float in an accessible area. But then you are probably going to rob your otherwise excellent steering wheel from actually moving freedly telescopically, and up and down..

WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH!!

so all i need is the power window buttons?? mirrors i dont care about.
what about power locks?
so then i take it its just like the foglights eh?? where all the wiring is there, and u just need the foglights and the new signal/light stalk?

Its all there obviously you need the motors, new regulators, switches and wiring harnesses. And the rear 2 door panels have to be replaced because they have no room for the switches. Your best bet is to buy all the stuff from the wrecker. Or you can see if Joe at MoT can cut you a good deal on all. Power locks you have to go oem because mazda uses a different setup i think they use cables and the normal power locks use connecting rods. If you wanted p/locks you would have to change out the door lock actuators aswell as far as i am aware of
