View Full Version : HELP! Scratched Front Bumper!

I lent my car to a buddy of mine and this is what happened to my bumper. Apparently he was backing out of a very tight driveway, was kinda curved and scratched my bumper.

They seem more like surface scratches, does it need to be treated right away? Or can I wait? Will a touch up paint pen or brush be good enough for this? They are pretty big scratches.

Thanks,

By the looks of it.....it looks deep....you DONT have to treat it right away cause its not going to make a diff...its plastic so it won't rust....but if you want it to look like before then you need to repaint it. OR i'd just wait and get more stone chips and repaint it at once

Re-paint just that section? So touch up paint pen won't be good enough?

Touch up paint won't work since that area is so big...and painting i mean the whole bumper...

Will touch up paint do the job temporairly? I just don't want that part to stick out like a sore thumb in pictures or anything else, if u know what I mean.

Looks like you need a new mod (front lip).

Now where is SSG?

Lol, probably be the same cost as re-painting the whole damn thing.

+1 Just get the guy that scratched it to fork out the $$ for SSG's lip. The lip will cover your damaged area perfectly.

Repainting will cost you $300-$400 b/c they have to redo the entire bumper. I'm in the same boat. I thought about buying a new one but i'm assuming it will cost you the same amount. Someone scraped my car and took off some of the clear coat and a 6" long streak with the paint gone.

My plan for now is to just cover it up with some paint and then deal with it in the spring.

sounds like a plan.. deal with the winter woes first.. then mod in spring.

It won't rust. It's made of ABS not metal.

I have the same scratch and I've tried to ignore it for a while now. The time has come to get it fixed and I see 3 options. 1. DIY with some help from the "How to repair a scratched bumper" Thread. 2. Pay the big $ to have a body shop repair and paint it. 3. Find a replacement front bumper cover from a used parts dealer.

Does anyone with some experience have any suggestions or recommendations?

It's a 2004 GT GFX TiGrey

I know this is old... but if you haven't fixed it yet... get the factory front flares like I have and it will cover the scratches and be cheaper than having the front bumper repainted.

would the "scratch remover" work, if its not to deep..

Since the car is straight black (ie not a 3 coat metallic nightmare) a good body shop should be able to patch that up nicely without painting the whole bumper.

That's what I did, instead of repainting the bumper just getting a lip!

Scratch remover doesn't really work at all. It works on light scratched in only the clear coat and you reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally need to buff.

Yeah that needs to be painted. No compound, scratch remover or anything can fix that, except painting. The option of a lip sounds pretty good though! Is your buddy at least covering some of the cost?
