CND list price reduction btw

Good afternoon,

We’re please to announce that the 2008 Impreza WRX STI pricing has been finalized and approved.

Please take note of this important schedule:
·Pricing memo will be sent in dealer mail Monday January 14, will arrive to dealers on Tuesday January 15
·Official pricing announcement to the public will be at the Montreal Auto Show, Thursday Jan 17 at 14:00
·Cars will be released early next week

With all the of new features along with enhanced driving dynamics and refinement, the new STI is really so much more car than it’s predecessor. Take for example just some of the improvements over the last model:
A 12 horsepower increase to 305HP and 290 lb-ft of torque now available lower in the rpm range
New Multi-mode Driver Controlled Centre Differential (DCCD)
New Multi-mode Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) system and Traction Control System (TCS)
GPS DVD-based navigation system and monitor system with colour touch-screen display
Front dash integrated DVD entertainment system with 7” tilt adjustable screen and digital sound technologies
SIRIUS® Satellite Radio (Free 3 month trial)
We think the STI will be a great competitor against other sports cars and a great value: We’ve reduced MSRP by $4000 compared to last year’s model! The MSRP for the 2008 STI will be $44,995.00

If that MSRP is correct, price with freight PDI and A/C should be $46590 before taxes.

Just did a quick comparison to the US car.

The equivalent US car for import, MSRP $39,440 + 6.1% duty = $41845 + A/C tax and RIV fee $295 = $42140. The same US car at invoice = $39745 total.

Price difference after taxes (GST+7%PST) = $52180CDN - $47197US = $4983.

If you pay invoice, (common in the US, difficult in Canada) the saving become, $52180CDN - $44514.4US = $7666. So still overpriced in canada

and what they did to make importing more difficult

Dear Subaru Dealer

Re: change of warranty reimbursement for Canadian citizens purchasing a Subaru

Subaru of America (SoA) has formalized a reciprocal warranty agreement with Subaru Canada Inc (SCI). There are important elements to this agreement which have changed that will impact the procedure for certain warranty claim reimbursements.

Procedure Change
If a Canadian citizen purchases a Subaru vehicle in the US with the intention of immediately registering the vehicle in Canada, they must be notified by the selling dealer that the Subaru Limited warranty specifically states, "Any and all repairs must be performed by an authorized Subaru Dealer in the United States." Therefore, Canadian residents who purchase a Subaru in the US, then registers the vehicle in Canada, will have 2 viable options for obtaining warranty repairs.

1. return the car to the US for all warranty repairs at an authorized Subaru dealer at no charge, or

2. Have the car repaired at an authorized Canadian Subaru dealer, pay for the repairs, then submit a copy of the repair order marked "Paid" for reimbursement to SoA through the CDS (customer dealer services), address Subaru of America, Inc, Subaru Plaza, PO Box 6000, Cherry Hill, New Jersey, 08034-6000, USA, phone 800 SUBARU3.

It used to be that these car's were only ugly on the inside, now its the outside as well. It's still as badass machine though, but I wouldn't spend 50k on it no flippin way - above 40k is reserved for EURO beasts ;)

Well at one time Mazda Canada wanted over $40k for the speed6 before they figured out people wouldn't pay that for them.

I agree it is expensive, and I am not impressed that subaru's idea of improvement is to take a step backwards performance wise. Car for that price should pack another 50hp

The exterior doesn't have that "wow" factor to it anymore. It lost the traditional STi wing which I thought was a big + for the looks..

I guess this model is better performance wise, it beat the old STi in a few races on best motoring lol.

Love the new STI... Seems like an awesome all around car. I do agree that it is pricey. If we had US pricing I would have def. be looking into this car.

After seeing that video where they did a head to head comparison of the STi and the speed3 and seeing all that body roll on the STi, I'm now totally uninterested in it.

And, for $50k... not happening.

i thought that was just the plain-vanilla WRX, and not the STI variant..

the price premium on the STI is a lot; but then it's a different animal compared to the MPS3.

Cool. Been a few recent comparisons with the Evo X recently too. It's still overpriced (as was all the previous ones) but I'm still glad to read that the MSRP has dropped by $4K. I wonder if it will hold when the CAD drops below parity.

no one likes the new EVOX? i don't think it looks as good as the STI...but with its technology in that car, i think it might be the car to beat....

Evo pricing i read somewhere is in the next few weeks so we'll see. I agree STI should have gone into the 42k range

Yeah Evo pricing should come out this Friday at the Montreal Auto Show. At least, the GSR. The US has pegged at just under $33K USD. I'm hopeful for below or just under $40K for the GSR in Canada now that the STI tops out at $45K.

I'm actually more interested in the Evo GSR from all aspects except practicality. No seat height adjustment, no telescopic steering wheel, supposedly no fold-down rear seats, no HIDs, ... geez. :P

Oh and the STI doesn't come in red for Canada, so it's automatically off my list. :(

i dunno... i just always think a new car/generation should greatly outperform the car it replaces. the evox is slower in a straight line, faster in turns although less involving (but 10x more mature looking) and the sti while i love the hatch continues to serve up the same dish but with more selectable options that still generate nearly the same outcome. but i supose if you love understeer it'd be perfrect

2008 Evo GSR, MR, STI comparison
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/Comparos/articleId=124246

The biggest difference is that this is done by the same driver, time attack/hot laps only (not a race), USDM specs. Interesting read that seems to counter some of those Best Motoring videos.

I'm all over the Evo and to a lesser extent, STI news right now. In fact, the first batch of Evos just arrived on shore yesterday!
