Hey guys me and my bro are trying to put in the Injen CAI into my 2008 mazda 3 sedan right now but the writeups we've found for it shows that there should be a mitsubishi sensor that we need to disconnect, problem is i cannot find the sensor so is there a major difference under the hood of a 2008 and the older models?

any help? can someone just tell me if it'll be safe to continue the install without the MAP sensor? or does the intake need that sensor to work properly?

I checked the 08's we have here and I see no MAP sensor where the older 2.3 motors had theirs. So my guess is that for 08 Mazda eliminated it. Looks like it was relocated to the intake manifold.

so is it safe to go ahead with the intake install? or am i SOL?

it means no intake for 2008?

Maybe you can bypass it? Try asking someone with an 07 3 because the setup should be the same.

im going to try and just install the intake tomorrow and see what happens, just been looking at a few guides and they only say you need to unscrew the MAP sensor so you can remove the filter so iunno correct me if im wrong cause this is first time but if they removed the sensor from the 08 im guessing there shouldnt be a problem?

The MAF on my 04 is on the air filter box leading to the throttle body. Now lots of air go through that throttle body and thats why I think they have the sensor towards the pipe.

Now Im no whiz at this, but if you took of your airfilter and box, you will have no airfilter.

And, from what Joe is saying there is no MAF. I still think the MAF sensor should be attached to the CAI, for optimum and normal operating conditions. Because CAI sucks more air and totally changes the air flow.

Thats just my thought.

it would be a question of first figuring out IF there is a MAF sensor, and if so you MUST remove it to install the intake!

If there is no MAF sensor, I would say to go ahead with the install and monitor it just to be sure. There are MANY cars out there that dont have MAF sensors and have this mod so it's safe for sure. Only real question would be, will it see the same gains?? you would have to use it for a while to find out about gas consumption, proper torque curve, idling, etc. I am pretty sure it will be fine so long as the piping is "to spec" which could be hit or miss.

hope this helps a little... I can only speculate as i havent worked on any '08 models

Hold on boys. We're talking about the MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor not the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor. Two different parts. I believe the one he's talking about is the small sensor attached to a bracket on all 04-06 models that's made by Mitsubishi electronics. The 07-08 models have a bracket there but no sensor in that spot.

ya flip is right lol talking about the MAP (mitsubishi sensor) the MAF is tehre i removed it when i was taking out teh filter..just having the 08 without the MAP was concerning me cause i thought it was an essential part needed.

My 2006 2.0L does not have that sensor either, just the MAF.

Argh, hit post too soon.

When I installed my intake I didn't worry about it not being there, and have had no issues as of yet, been about 3 weeks.

You're right, so let's clarify the 2004-2005 has the MAP sensor located on the airbox beside the MAF sensor.:) The 2006-2008 models have the MAP sensor relocated to the intake manifold.

oops is right! I gave a long-winded post too *lol*

still... just running it under normal conditions for a while should let you know of any problems (if any)

okay maybe im wrong here, but gonna put in my comments anyways :chuckle if the intake has a spot for the map sensor.... if its not connected would that not leave a hole in the intake arm itself?? and if so... that would have a pretty big effect on the operation of the CAI... wouldn't it? As you'd be losing air out of the hole which would result in a loss of SUCKY SUCKY almost like a vacuum hose with a hole ..........:blush

Its not in the intake tube itself.
