View Full Version : TM3 promo idea: key rings

Niteshade

Don't know if this is cost effective or not but thought it would be cool if we could have key rings made with the TM3 gauge logo. Subtle but instantly identifiable (to members at least:chuckle) Thinking of the leather fob with circular enameled or plastic-coated metal logo tab style.

Anyone else interested and anyone know if this could be done?

this is a good idea. not quite a promotional item persay but I'd definately have one on my key chain.

It's do able, especially on leather. But the minimum order part is the annoying. Need to find enough people willing to at least buy enough to cover the cost.

Agreed.
FYI, this was the kind of style I was thinking (except with the TM3 logo instead of the f*(&%g Excursion one)

IMO great Idea, but would not get caught having that style of key chain... Perhaps same concept but in a longer rectangle look. The one you posted looks too 80s

lol have to agree with RJ3.

Though, with most of the Tm3 apparel, most of the time there has been "choices" to vote and choose, so if this idea were to happen, I would suspect something similar would happen again.

What about something similar to this style? Got it at MOT when I bought my car.

It's so-so. I only have 2 xtra keys on my flip key and probably wouldn't put it on. I would just have it on something else. Good idea for TM3 recognition purposes though. Better than a card or anything like that.

Exactly what I was thinking. Personally I've got 2 rings: one for the car, one for everything else. That way if I'm planning on having a drink or 6 I can get into my house without ever having my car keys with me.

(That and the fact I've always felt like my ride deserved a ring of it's own:chuckle)

I work a lot with promo companies sourcing this kind of thing, so let me know if there is a specific design you're looking for (with light? rubber? etc.) and I'll see what I can do; min quantities shouldnt' be an issue unless we're creating a new diecut shape. :)

There is a lot of options with this... I would probably prefer a thin long keychain that says the webaddress on one line or even getting the logo put on those keychain flashlights or screwdrivers.

I still think an air freshener would be badass, kinda like the bee-otch one from transformers HAHAHA

the only problem that i see with printed items is that the logo or whatever else thats on them will be scratched to shit and illedgable in no time.

i still like the flashlight idea because it is useful too. but for a metal key chain maybe something with cutouts would look neat. or what about some custom caribeaners where something can be CNC'd into the side.

I have a sample of the teardrop light and find it's really thick and heavy. Plus the red LED isn't bright and doesn't help at night.

On the other hand, I also have one of these. Simple and works well. Good size, not bulky or heavy.

i dont think a beer bottle opener would be appropriate for a car club

I carry around the minimum amount of stuff on my key ring. My preference would something small and lightweight (e.g. the stick-like one in post #33) or something that replaces the key ring itself (e.g. the steering wheel key ring).

Okay, if there actually is an interest in this.... how would we go about getting an order setup for these things? Can we just do it? Do we need to get agreement/approval from the TM3 commitee?

mit-gee-mui
03-20-2008, 09:47 AM
I'm not sure if you know this, and I'm not sure if this applies to every place that does custom work, but usually, when it comes to getting custom work done, a minimum order is required.

For example, the reason why the plate covers are taking so long to be made is because the minimum order is set to 150. (Don't quote me on this, but reason being, things are generally cheaper in bulk. If you buy one plate cover, it will probably cost a lot more per plate cover than buying say 50 plate covers.)

And a similar thing happened with the lanyards and decals.

Because of this, chances are, you're going to want the committee on your side.

Worst comes to worst, if you don't get the go-ahead, you can always say it is "unofficial" tm3 merchandise.:chuckle

As for how to get started, I recommend an actual list of people interested. (It is more organized this way, instead of reading posts of people saying they are interested.)

You can use a similar format like this
http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=19448
or this
http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=19858

Then, if you choose to accept your self-appointed mission:chuckle, find a place that will be willing to make these things, whether it be nail clippers or beer openers or keychains or whatever. You will have to know exactly what to tell them. In other words, if you are actually doing key rings, you will have to give them a template (such as giving them a sample and telling them to make something similar) and you may have to give them some kind of image of the logo (such as a vector image, depending on what they use).

If they give you the green light, then you have to probably pay them a deposit to cover the costs of production.

Then, sit anxiously and wait, as your items are being made.

If you ordered a huge amount of products, I recommend that you set up meets in the westside and eastside and maybe central so that members can pick up their long-awaited items. You may have to set up a few meets, since schedules always collide.

Lastly, enjoy your item.:)

Oh, and a word of warning: Make SURE that the item you choose to order will agree with everyone's interests and tastes. The last thing you want is to find out you paid a huge sum of money to only sell a fraction of what you bought. (Unless you can get a small amount of them made.)

Thanks, I do know that there is usually a minimum order. I suspect LASER engraving would be the cheapest option for low volumne, and that anything requiring a stamp or paint mask would be a more.

Part of my concern about doing something unofficially is that I would expect the TM3 commitee would want to have some control of how the club is represented. For example, I would expect the commitee to frown upon key-ring beer-openers with the TM3 logo on it.

In any case, I like the idea of a keyring, so if anyone is interested in actually making this happen, please post here or PM me. I don't mind organizing it.... but would need help with distributing them etc.

I might as well create another post since I don't think you guys are still reading the post I made above for changes. :whoa

Those who are interested may want to also state which key ring sample they like
i.e. they pick which one they want and then you pick the one that most people vote for.

OR you could always say you are making "A" and ask how many people would want to buy "A"
i.e. you pick which one you want and then they tell you they want one too.

That just speeds things up. That way, you don't wait for a bunch of people to say they want a keychain, and then wait more to finally agree on one that everyone likes. It'll be like killing 2 birds with one stone. (By the way, please don't do this <- the bird part.:whoa Hey look, a crow..... *runs*)

Uncle Rico: We also need some way to make us look official, like we got all the answers.
Kip: How bout some gold bracelets?
Uncle Rico: We need like some name tags with our picture on it, all laminated and what not. I mean, we gotta look legit man.
Kip: That's true, that's true.
