I really dont like the look of these worn out, rock chipped headlights. Not sure how to describe it, but do you know what i mean. Now any way to polish them off to make them look new again?

Got this from TOP (http://www.toprotege.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40217) a while back.
Amazing results but very risky.

There's a product by Mother's. I can't remember the name, but's it's to polish clear plastic parts, such as headlights/tailights. I've used it and it does a pretty good job.

There is a product from Meguires that works really good. I used on my last car and made them look almost new. Canadian Tire sells it

I've considered the whole process of sanding and polishing the headlight but I don't have the tools. I need this done.

I have done it the same way as that guy did, and turns out really well and definately worth it.

Huh?? Then what's the purpose of your OP? Are you looking for an alternate method?

BTW, did you do that method (wet sanding) to Mazda 3 headlights or different car? I ask cuz the plastic can be different on various cars and results may vary.

I was looking for alternative solution, as well some of as here also want to know on how to get new looking headlights.

I tried on the different car and worked really well, but havent tried on Mazda yet, that is why im wondering.

Carcones does this too.

I think it is like $35 per pair or something like that.

I am far too lazy to do something that I could mess up just to save $15.

Meguiars Plast-X or Plastix... i haven't used it yet to see how well it works on the little chips, but with haze and cleaning of the headlights, it's pretty good... It comes in a white bottle...

+1 for Plastx, I used it on my 8 headlights. We get a stupid yellow film in ours. Sometimes it amazes us how smart and stupid the engineers can be, like where the dipstick is and the oil filter. AND STILL NO FREAKING AUTO CLIMATE!

As enthusiasts we all like to do things ourselves sometimes, so for those who want to do something like this on their own, here is an amazing DIY article written up by a fellow detailer.

I love to DIY but this is something I'd leave to someone with experience.

Has anyone had any experience with this? Jeff you said Carcones(?) does this?

I have done this before to both a Subaru headlights and Mazda Protege 5. I removed the headlights (way worth the time), then wetsand the headlights. Then I tried that plast X product sold at Cdn Tire but didn't do a great job. So I went to Princess auto and got some buffing bars (not sure of the exact name, but they were blue) and then use a buffing wheel (also from Princess auto) to buff the headlights. Result were REALLY impressive. Really easy to do. Not sure how you could screw it up. They looked like new, and trust me, they looked terrible before.
Found all the detailed instruction on the web somewhere. Sorry I didn't keep the link and don't have time to search right now, but I'm sure it is easy to find. Highly recommend that method.

My car is an 05, and my lights look like new so far, car is exactly 3 years on the road. Don't know what year your cars are with the dull lens. After 3 years they should still be ok??

^Hard to say. My dad's civic is a 2000 and its now starting to show signs of a needed polishing, but my Mom's 2006 Odyssey is already in need of some work and its less than 2 years old.

Anyhow, I'm ordering some supplies to start doing this in case anyone still wants to get it done...
