What is everyone using to get rid of bugs on the front bumper from driving?

I just scream at them and hope that the vibrations from my yelling voice will force them to remove themselves......:chuckle

I buy the good sponges for washing the car that have a backside thats a little more rough to help get the bugs out. Then wax real good. I believe there is a simple green bug and tar remover thats easy on the paint.

I think it depends on how they got there. Normally, they just wash off... but one day I went for a bit of a high-speed romp through some farmland... and believe you me... I have NEVER had so many bugs completely embedded in the bumper as I did after that! And the hood... and mirrors...

Nothing but a clay bar was taking those little bastards off!

Good tip I was shown...soak a terry cloth in boiling water and lay it on the section of bugs for a while comes off a lot easier this way.

I use some stuff in a yellow can, I think it's called bug and tar remover. It's good because it takes all the greese and oil off the front too. I spray the whole front of the car and the sides and my black color pops out better. Crappy tire has some good stuff, just make sure to hose it off really good as I'm pretty sure it's not good for the paint to leave it on.

This is my method, and I get real bugs from driving back and forth from up north.

I found this thread after searching for tips on how to effectively and safely remove bugs, and I found it hilarious... I always get a bumper FULL of bugs every time I make my way to and from Toronto.

So I thought I'd post one of the worst I've had so far before scrubbing them off at the car wash! These photos really do it no justice, it looks 10x worse in person, my car had a mustache!!! The absolute worst I've had, however, was earlier this year and was literally DOUBLE than what's in these photos...

I think I have a nice variety of insects, I'm not sure what the giant yellow splattered one in the license plate and windshield were though, small bird or something who knows hahah... By the way, power spraying does NOT work for these suckers. My mitt is now ruined. lol

Oh and the method used? Cardinal Fang's seems to work best. :)

Elbow grease and a lot of swearing.

Ya?? What's it called? I'm tired of ruining the sheepskin mitts :( They're beginning to get expensive...

Really? Is it faster? Are there gas stations along the way just in case? hahah that was my biggest fear... and how many lanes is it, like what if a giant truck is hogging the lane? lol

Oh and completely off topic, I made it to Toronto on half a tank of gas last weekend (filled up on hunt club and averaged 130kph the whole way)... is that normal? That's ridiculous, that's OVER 800k/tank highway driving (speeding!)... amazing!!! I can barely make it halfway on one tank in the winter...

Oops, I made a mistake. It's in a black container with a lime green sticker ! And it's made by Turtle Wax !

http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Auto/CarWashingCleaning/CarPaintCare/PRD~0393617P/Turtle%2BWax%2BBug%2B%2526%2BTar%2BRemover.jsp

I usually let it soak in for a bit and spray liberally. That way they come off with a bit of elbow grease. I used this to get tar off my old Civic. It wouldn't have taken long to take all the tar off but the car was covered with the stupid tar spots !! Pissed me off.

I also use this for the bugs but seeing as I mainly drive around main roads and not the back roads, I don't really get much bugs on the front of the car. Mostly rock chips. But bugs > rock chips anytime though...

For me keeping a constant coat of wax/sealant makes the bug removal much easier. If I've got a crap load of bugs on the front I'll hose it off as soon as I can. Then a quick soap and rinse gets everything off.

Yeah you would think that'd make sense..... what about when you're going 140kph and bugs are just SLAMMIN into you (as per my photos) man they TOTALLY get embedded in the bumper!!!! It's so weird/gross..... not having a hose in my building doesn't help either though haha it's usually a day or two before I get to take em off. :(

PS your signature cracks me up.... :chuckle

I see you point. I occasionally take trips to Montreal. Once I get there I give the front end a quick wash and that does the trick. If it's caked on I would try the stoner product listed above. it's worked for me.

I'm glad my sig put a smile on your face. :)

Really? Is it faster?
No, but it is shorter... instead of it being 440km (Ottawa to Markham) it's 390km. But if you hit 130 the whole way (which, if you do, would put you at 50km over, and if you get caught, you know what happens) it will be faster

Are there gas stations along the way just in case?
Yes, you will pass through many small towns... Gas is cheaper in most of those places too. Toronto, Gas price was 98.7, Port Perry (about 1hr ish out) is 94.9

and how many lanes is it, like what if a giant truck is hogging the lane? lol

Normally, it's 2 lanes (one each way), but there are passing lanes... not many giant trucks go on highway 7. Past Carleton Place

I don't go completely highway 7... I do highway 7 from Just outside Ottawa, to just outside Peterborough, Take highway 115 towards Toronto. Get off at the exit for Moore Dr/Highway 7A... Follow highway 7A back onto highway 7... Then follow Highway 7 into the GTA

Cant get enough of this

http://www.turtlewax.com/main.taf?p=2,1,4,11

I use it as a pre wax cleaner also al over my white '09 GT, notice it removes all of what a clay bar does also for the most part as it is a surfactant with very little effort, nice slippery feel after, bugs just come off, spray then let it sit for a few min

My father-in-law (who lives in northen ontario) once told me to use WD40 to pre-spray the front before a long trip and simply wash it off after the trip. I haven't try it myself though.
