I was talking with Jim @ Street Performance last night, and I asked him about Oil catch cans.... He said that oil catch cans eliminate recirculating oil vapour back into the engine to places where it doesn't need to be, as well as alleviate any pressure *SUPPOSEDLY* in and around the engine pistons, allowing them to move more freely, potentially allowing you to tap more of the power that the engine is able to produce.

Jimmy was not too sure about the "alleviate pressure" part of what he was saying, but said if it's not BS, it would make sense! Anyone have any idea on this?

I was doing a little bit of reading and found this cool little DIY I might try:

I've read the same tutorial, but I've gotten an OCC in a kit, which I'll likely stuff with scouring material. I will have Jimmy take care of install. I rather like his suggestion of putting it under my SRI so I can get at it as well. Others have stealth-installed it behind the wheel well, but it's a little harder to drain without a hoist...

Make sure you get black hosing or reinforced clear hosing at the very least. Good luck!

The Catch Can on the 2.3L DISI Mazda engine is a little hard to install since one of the lines has to be attached to the underside of the intake manifold. Though not required, most people remove the intake manifold to get the the PCV vacuum port.

Nice walk through with pictures:
