the passenger airbag sensor parameters are disabling the passenger airbag and seatbelt pretensioner when my wife is sitting in the car. She weighs 90 lbs . even after placing a 10 lb weight on her lap, she is still too light! I would like to know if this,or similar problem exists with previous models.

It actually calls for a passenger to be 93lbs so you'll have to get her to bulk up a bit! :chuckle

If you look in your manual (2-57) it says this. I would have it checked out though as you said she was holding extra weight and the light still doesn't go off. Have you tried sitting in the seat or having 10, 20, 30lbs added while she is sitting in the chair? Maybe this way you can see how much it is looking for to activate the system.

It took 13 extra pounds(103 total). It was checked out by ajax mazda and they said everything is working fine. This doesn't seem very safe to me. I think having the benfits of airbags would be nice, rather than having to fatten her up.:chuckle

Unless she's 3 feet tall, I think you have a whole other underlying issue here... hahahhaa feed that poor girl a burger, 90lbs for a grown woman is not healthy!!!!! :chuckle

You'll just have to throw her in the back seat in the meantime... :P

Your wifey is too light.

When my girl lifts one side of herself to hug me, the light comes on as well.

I don't think you can tweak the sensor box underneath the seat.

bring it to the dealer and have them recalibrate the seat weight sensor... it was a problem with the 1st gens also

It might be an issue of the impact of the airbag being too strong for someone of that weight. (conservation of momentum 8-))

the reason its not turned on is that its more dangerous for a 90lb person to have an airbag then to not have one...

according to transport canada, only very small children and infants should not have an airbag for protection. Every one else should! Definitely those over 66lbs.
the passenger weight sensor was recalibrated today at Ajax Mazda and it did not make a difference. According to Mazda the car is performing to manufacturer specs, and they don't know what else to do.
