I hope this is the right section....
My wife's got an '01 Chevy Cavalier. The CEL came on recently, so I hooked up my ODB reader and checked it out: P0442 (http://www.obd-codes.com/p0442). I know the problem is usually the gascap, so I took it off, replaced it and cleared the code. The next day the light came back on. So I took it off again, and this time more carefully placed it back (last night.)
I'm a bit worried-- what if it's not the gas cap? How am I going to find this leak? The link says I should check the EVAP system. I'm not sure where I should be looking, if there is somewhere I CAN look.
Is there anything I can do, or should I just bite the bullet and take it to a shop?

My 99 cav used to come up with that code. I found after 2 days of running the car after replaceing cap properly the code would not come back.
P.S. I had a replacement crappy tire cap not the OEM one.

Maybe wait a few days if it goes away great but if not just take it to Jimmy at street performance he should be able to take care of you:)

Here is what the code means on a Cavalier:
P0442- This car is a disposable P.O.S. Please buy another one.
:chuckle
In all seriousness, replace the gas cap and make sure your wife turns the gas cap till it clicks at least 3 times, when she is closing tight. If you still have the code, get it looked at as it is probably a leak somewhere else.

My ex-wife had a sunfire with the same problem, just keep driving it and the light will eventually go out! All those cars have that problem!

Ok so I re-re-replaced the gascap, and the light hasn't come on yet after several days (last time it came on the very next day.) So looks like it's fixed!
