Any idea which 2010's are affected? Is there like a list or bank of VIN#'s that can be checked to see if the car is affected?

Parts at this time are on back order. Last time I checked stock was last week mind you, but I imagine they still are. So far the 3 cars that I have seen that required this recall have also had the issue with the headlamp housings fogging.

if the housing requires replacement because of the fogging then yes they WILL replace them as the dealers are starting to see it more and more

just wondering if I have them fix this recall or if in the future I need a new housing because of fogging, will they mess with the aftermarket HIDs that I installed? (i.e. move them around and stuff)

McGuyver_3

This recal only concerns oem hid equipped models

ohh, guess that's not my concern than.

even if it did concern your model it shouldnt have anything to do with your hid kit as they have nothing to do with the DRL's

Just got my recall notice today. I was just about to call in regarding the fogging on the driver side housing that I noticed last week.

I've had a replacement driver's seat cover on order at MOT for a couple months now (it came with a few pulls in the fabric from the factory or yard), so we'll see if we can hit three birds with one stone.

RE: 2010 Mazda3 Daytime Running Lights Recall 5609G

Dear Mazda Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety
Act.
Mazda Motor Corporation has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in
certain 2010 Mazda3 vehicles equipped with HID type headlights and produced from October 14,
2008 through June 24, 2009.
If you are a recipient of this notice, your vehicle is included in this recall.

What is the problem?
On certain Mazda3 vehicles, due to improper material/structure of front headlight unit, a part of
headlight housing where the Daytime Running Light (DRL) bulb is attached may be damaged by
heat from the bulb when the vehicle is left idling for an extended period or while driving in slow
traffic. This may result in discoloration of the headlight inner surface or adhesion of the bulb to the
housing. In the worst case, the housing may be deformed, resulting in the bulb becoming
detached and loss of DRL functionality.

What will Mazda do?
Your Mazda dealer will repair or replace the DRL bulb, install a short cord with resistor on the
headlight harness connectors, and attach a caution label on the headlight housing. In addition, a
sticker will be applied to the Owner’s Manual to correct applicable pages. All the services will be
performed free of charge. The repair may take approx. half an hour to complete; however, it may
take longer depending on the service workload at your Mazda dealership.

What should you do?
Mazda is concerned about your safety, and we encourage you to make an appointment with any
authorized Mazda dealer to have the DRL bulb repaired as soon as possible. You do not need to
bring this notice to the dealer, but it may assist in the check-in process.

The modified DRL bulb is unique in design. Please consult an authorized Mazda Dealer when the
replacement of bulb is necessary in the future.

Moved or no longer own this vehicle?
If you have moved or no longer own your Mazda vehicle, please complete the enclosed prepaid
Information Change Card as soon as possible. This enables us to update our records and notify
the current owner.

Federal law requires that any vehicle lessor receiving this recall notice must forward a copy
of this notice to the lessee within ten days.

Still have questions?
If you have any questions regarding this campaign, please contact our Customer Assistance
Center at 1-800-263-4680.

We actively work to improve our products and search for solutions to improve your ownership
experience. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this recall may have caused you.

Sincerely,

MAZDA CANADA INC..

The fog would be covered regardless so i would suggest you get that taken care of and get the drl mod at the same time

Patience you will get it eventually this TSB has been around for a while I just got mine very recently

Is this for GX GS model as well?

Cause before when I read it.. it seemed like it's only for GT models with xenon lights

Just an FYI, call your dealer before going in. I had my appointment booked 2 weeks prior, and I went in today to find out that they are back ordered... a waste of a drive

Both my housings need to be replaced but I am waiting until Spring. One less winter on the lenses should = less pitting.

TheMAN

no pitting to worry about if you have xpel ;)

Those Xenon lights seem to have a lot of issues. Of course I'm clear of this one, I'm too cheap.

pacmann33
02-01-2010, 09:40 PM
It isn't the Xenon aspect of them that is the problem....it is the halogen bulb...burns very hot. But yes....only the Xenon equipped ones have this issue (due to how the halogen bulb is mounted). I have not seen ANY of this yet but I don't drive it much, and only got it in the fall when it is cool enough out to avoid the issue. They have installed that recall piece, an extra metal ring to prevent this. So far it's working for me!

Just an FYI to those who get the whole housing replaced, make sure that they adjust your xenon's correctly. Mine are completely messed up, and I am currently trying to figure out how to adjust.

This could be the reason that caused my car to burn to the ground
