Hey guys, so I just got my can of plastidip from next mod. And I am kind of scared about spraying my emblems while still on the car. I've read the guide where the guy did his Lexus, but I've done some test paints and I dont see how it peels off that easy. Has anyone plasti dipped there emblems while it was still on the car? Advice? Thanks

yes i have. my advice is dont be in a rush. i followed the guide and it was easy! just make sure you wait for it to be dry otherwise it will peel some off the plastidip off the emblem.
oh and watch overspray in the wind!

overspray wasn't fun to clean but I had some thanks to a nice gust of wind. To help combat overspray you can take a clear garbage bag and cut a hole in it big enough to fit the emblem. Then just tape that hole cut out around the emblem and spray from inside the bag.

It's really easy. Just make sure your edges are defined and not just loose paint and its easy as hell

Make 100% sure you're holding a can of plastidip and not a can of regular spray paint.
Follow that rule, and worst case you'll have to respray to do a better job :P

Ok thanks guys. So what makes it so easy to peel off? The fact that the tape creates an edge high enough to pick And peel at?

It has the same feeling as picking dry Elmers glue off your fingers. Don't worry about it. It's probably the easiest thing to do. When you spray it, you'll see how easy it comes off. If you're located in the East End just let me know and I can do it for you.

I did as many coats as it took to look good. Ended up with about 4 or 5 coats letting them dry about 15-30 minutes between coats. Then I waited about 30-45 minutes before finally peeling things off (impatience lol)

This may seem like a dumb question, but....why take the emblems off? according to this guide (see the first post - http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?50277-Easy-way-to-black-out-your-emblems-with-Plastidip/page3&highlight=black+emblem), you can just plasti dipp them while on the car...
Can someone please clarify if it is okay to plasti dipp while still on the car?
thanks!

Yes it is fine. Just make sure you mask off the area and you'll be golden.

thanks!Never turned out very well for me. Not sure if i was doing something wrong, but the edge finish was never THAT good. If you're not painting them a ridiculous color, i'd just take them off and do it right with paint. Looks 10x better and is 100000x more durable

I popped my front emblem out and sprayed it with Krylon Fusion first, it was so easy to remove I figured why not?
The back M, Mazda3, and upper portion of license plate surround I did with plasti-dip Black. I have done the M twice, same with the bumper. I am going to re-do it today and take some final pictures of it all done.
I was super nervous to spray the back on the car, but turns out to work amazingly easy to adhere and to remove. I run a small very sharp blade along the edge from where I want to peel the excess. Very light pressure is all you need, just enough to define the line a bit more.
I did the Jeep emblem of my Father In-Law's 2010 Wrangler as well and it turned wicked too. The greater the thickness, or should I say gap, between the emblem and the body the better it will work. Basically doesnt allow the plasti-dip to create a solid flow of rubber between the two, giving a much better line.
Pics to follow today hopefully
Andrew
