Not sure if this has already been posted yet..but thought i'd share this article that I found off thestar.com this morning. Apparently an electonic glitch that could prevent the windshield wipers from working for our 3's from 2008-2010. http://www.wheels.ca/columns/article/798162

I bet the service guys at Mazda of Toronto will turn us away for having modded our cars... Yes I'm still bitter.

I heard the cut-off date for the models affected was March 2009? Cars made in March 2009 might still qualify as 2010 models.... right?

I'm not 100% sure but the 2010 model year did start very early so it's possible. I hope that's true because my car was made in September 2009.

I'm heading to QEW for maintenance appointment tomorrow... will have to ask about this.
Hopefully they don't make me wait for a letter or a call or some crap.

all the recall involves is adding an external ground strap to the wiper motor... the original connection through the motor connector wasn't reliable due to a defect in the motors

I went for my power steering recall recently and they also completed this recall by adding a ground

I think I'm part of the recall. I got letter in the mail that they are tried to contact me (but I didn't get any voice mail) for scheduled maintenance due for:

Electrical.

Not sure what that mean, so I gotta call them tomorrow to find out as it was too late today.

Oh man, that's a helluva lot of servicing Mazda is going to have to do. Good thing the recall isn't for something too dangerous.

Thankfully this is a very simple recall, and does not take more then a half hour to complete.

So I was lucky enough to have my wiper blades fail due to this electronic glitch. It happened over the Christmas weekend when I was heading back to Toronto from Waterloo for a family function. To add to the fun situation, I was driving on the highway in heavy snow and slushy weather conditions when the wipers went across my windshield left, right, left and then stopped mid way right in my line of sight. I had to pull over every few exists, come out of the car and clean of the windshield with my hand. I could not force them to a different resting position as I did not want to snap them off. Definitely a scary ride and an incredible safety concern. I had to wait until after boxing day to take it in and could not really use the car because of this until then.

I took the car to Avante first thing when they opened the Wednesday. I mentioned to the service rep what was the issue and at first was told they are too busy to squeeze me in and make an appointment if I can not leave the car for the day. I saw Ted and I mentioned my wipers were not working. He had me in and out with the recall fixed and the wipers working in less than 45 minutes. Thanks Ted and Avante!

For those of you who have not gotten the recall dealt with, I encourage you to do it right away so you do not have have the same fun experience I did while on the road.

As an aside, I hear about these recalls to various vehicles and people usually get them dealt with without actually experiencing the failure. I've had this failure occur as well as the power steering go on me (which I went in for before the official recall came out mind you). Both occurred while driving in heavy traffic resulting in very dangerous situations. Its an alarming trend to say the least.

Just had mine done yesterday at Scarboro Mazda. I haven't really experienced anything wrong with the blades, but I just thought, now that the weather is cooling down and getting worst, the cold will have an effect on the electronics. Good stuff!
