Hey guys,

After Bluestreak bugging me to go big turbslow for the past few weeks. I decided to pull the trigger about a week ago. The following items that I ordered was the gtx 3071, CPe big inlet, CPe big maf, CPe safety seals, grimmspeed ebc, updated maf for bigger psi, upgraded fmic, and some other shit.

Update, I received the turbo today and it's one bad ass turbo. Hopefully, Dave and I will be able to install this shit in January depending on our schedules and how cold it will be. Stay tuned for the gong show.

QTY 6 M8x1.25 x 50 Metric Alloy Steel Stud
QTY 12 M8-1.25 DIN 6923 Steel Class 8.8 Zinc Flange Nut

There are lots of extras just in case some get lost. You really only need 4 of each but its cheap insurance.

Canadian Tire sells a pretty decent ceiling heater... 5000 watts (220-250V / 20-22 amp). Does a decent job! Of course you will need to run 220 service to your garage if you don't already have it.

I have some extra 6-3 cable if you go this route. I'll sell it for half of what HD sells it for :)

EDIT: Looking over Derek's turbo, I have noticed some improvements that ATP made with the IWG design. At one point, there was an issue with the WGA arm binding on part of the turbo; that issue has since been resolved with the kinked arm. Furthermore, the wastegate nipple faced the firewall on older models (mine included) making it a huge PITA to plumb the EBCS hoses. This one faces directly upward which is how it should've been done in the first place.

EDIT x2: The ATP hotside also seems to be a larger A/R than the older designs giving more top end power due to less back pressure in the system. This is just based on visual inspection though.

- Intake valve cleaning (in very good condition btw).
- CPe injector seals.
- Bosch 3BAR map sensor and corresponding pigtail harness soldered into OEM wire harness.
- EGR delete.
- GTX3076 /w modified K04 support bracket.
- GrimmSpeed EBCS.
- CPe big turbo inlet and big MAF intake.
- Prosport electronic boost gauge.

All in one shot.

Personally, I prefer to always deliver a more conservative and corrected number. In lieu of entering the SAE correction factors like temperature and barometric pressure, using the 1.01 correctionn factor is a quick and dirty way to apply some correction to the numbers. This is esp important for the colder winter days.

Without talking out of my ass, I'm thinking 400+ whp, SAE corrected or 1.01 CF, should be attainable.

with regards to oil, it remains to be seen how Rotella will hold up to these beasts. I mean Dave is already on race oil (for different reasons), but Derek is running a very different setup. I guess the easiest way to judge will be to see how his OCC contents look after the BT install.

At this point, I'm not too concerned.

We need to setup a "Ride along" meet. ;)

FYI on the topic of oil, I was just talking to Neil about this. On the Speed3s we tend to monitor coolant temperature for an indication of when the car is ready to play... But some cars monitor oil temperature instead. If you capture oil temperature, you'll know your coolant is ready too (Since oil warms up way slower).

I know it doesn't sound like a huge deal, but take this into consideration:

I would short shift my Speed3 all the way onto the highway, which was about 7 minutes from my house. I would shift at 2.5-3k rpm. When I entered the highway, I would bring it up to 4k shifts and still short shift. By the time I merged from 403 to 401 (< 5 minutes), my coolant temp was at the normal range and I would start driving normally/aggressively (if the situation called for it).

Consider the above and now with my current car, which monitors oil temperature instead of coolant, I don't hit the 'normal' range for my oil until I'm nearly at work! I look at my oil pressure gauge to note when it's time for teh fastz. At normal operating temperature, the Mazda manual states that the car should run at 30psi at 1K RPMs. This pressure is reached long after coolant temps are ~187*F.

FYI on the topic of oil, I was just talking to Neil about this. On the Speed3s we tend to monitor coolant temperature for an indication of when the car is ready to play... But some cars monitor oil temperature instead. If you capture oil temperature, you'll know your coolant is ready too (Since oil warms up way slower).

I know it doesn't sound like a huge deal, but take this into consideration:

I would short shift my Speed3 all the way onto the highway, which was about 7 minutes from my house. I would shift at 2.5-3k rpm. When I entered the highway, I would bring it up to 4k shifts and still short shift. By the time I merged from 403 to 401 (< 5 minutes), my coolant temp was at the normal range and I would start driving normally/aggressively (if the situation called for it).

Consider the above and now with my current car, which monitors oil temperature instead of coolant, I don't hit the 'normal' range for my oil until I'm nearly at work! So no playing for me on the way to work! But it tells me that I might have been beating on my speed3 a little to prematurely into my drive.

Went for a ride in fast_dude's car today to tune in his meth. His car is stupid stupid fast. It pulls like a damn freight train.

One thing I did notice is that the GTX is much quieter than my GT series. If you listen closely, though, it sounds like a jet engine as it spools. Awesome.

I will likely elaborate on these more in the MSpeed section, but just to give ppl an idea as to progress, the following shows the K04 fully bolted [datalog135], GTX3076 1st map [datalog162] and last night's map [datalog183]. We can disregard the power jump in datalog135 since it's likely wheelspin causing a jump in power readings.

The idea here is after switching turbo's, tuning from bottom up, and now equaling the output of the K04 fully bolted and tuned, and ready to go beyond:

Thanks to Mspeed tuning for the hard work they have been doing for the past few weeks. I guess I can say I'm the first one to reach the 400hp mark in the gta. Just remember, there is more to come from these guys in the near future and if you are serious about moding and tuning just remember Mspeed Tuning Services. Yes, I have worked these guys to death, but hopefully with all the hard work they did. This little journey will definitely make future speed owners want to facilitate the services of Mspeed Tuning.

fast_dude will be able to keep up with stock GTRs on a roll race for sure. I'd even venture to say that he would pull on them.

I would expect that your setup will leave GTRs seeing your taillights disappear in the distance.

The lateset 911 Turbos are 500hp at the crank. Factoring in a 20% drivetrain loss puts them at 400whp. I think it would be a fair comparo :)

Z06s would be tough to beat I'd say.

That's a very broad question.

When you say spools up, do you mean to 20PSI? 30PSI?

It also depends on the turbine side sizing. The smaller the turbine side, the faster the spool. This comes at a cost of heat and not reaching higher end boost targets.

Then there's the type of turbine side setup. Singlescroll? Twinscroll? TiAL singlescroll?

THEN, there's the compressor operating range where you absolutely cannot hit 30PSI (for instance) before X,XXX RPMs because you'll just surge the turbo.

Just looked at the compressor map. Anything over 31PSI will drastically reduce efficiency in the top end. It can do 35PSI though.

He can go WOT whenever he likes. The car is tuned such that it will not reach full boost before ~3700RPMs.

Yes...and I'm sure he can use more meth...right up to a 10gph nozzle wouldn't be an issue, and of course, port meth after that when you want 12+gph, like Bluestreak.

Fueling, we're about low to mid 90's with IDC, so we're up there. There are tricks of course, to get a bit IDC here and there...but let's be honest; we're close to 200% of designed output of a stock engine...and fueling isn't our biggest concern.

To look at it another way, a street tune of 400-420whp w/ 400trq is prolly what I'd settle with for longevity. We can likely get 450whp out of it somehow, but it'll be at the expense of reliability and longevity of a stock block.

We want to keep him fast_dude...and not sad_dude...lol...
