So I recently received my used Cobb AP. I knew going in that I would need to purchase a new ODBII cable, as one was not included.
I am trying to determine if I can just purchase the V2:http://www.cobbtuning.com/products/?id=5653 or if I need to purchase the V1:http://www.cobbtuning.com/products/?id=5652 .
It certainly looks like the V2 cable will work, but I want to ensure.

Second Q: Since this was used, it came loaded with a number of different maps. However, as my car only has a few upgrades so far, I was thinking I would rather remove all these additional maps, and start from scratch myself.
Downloading and using the maps that are applicable to my car.
Though I plan to start by logging before I get into the maps.

Thoughts? Suggestions ?

I can't answer the first question, but you'll definitely want to start from scratch with the latest versions of the OTS maps.

you can dload those from the Cobb website and just get the ones applicable to your current mods.

hmm, if nobody is certain about question #1, then perhaps I can meet with someone to test their V2 cable on my AP.

I think I have a V2 cable, if you want to check it out. Im at the shop and have it on me, or you can meet me in the evening whenever. I live in markham. Just call me or PM for my cell number
Cable looks like the one in the picture. The black cable. If there's anything you want me to check on it before you drive to meet, just let me know.

I am going to be right beside the shop tomorrow afternoon. Will drop by to triple check, and get you the plate covers.
Thanks.

Deal. Give me a call a few minutes before so I'm sure not to be in the middle of something.

Wait a second, I thought there were 3 versions of the AP:

ver 1: green/black LCD screen, black rectangular shape

ver 2: colour LCD screen, curvy shape, requires mini usb cable -> grey dongle to connect to ODB2

ver 2b: same as ver 2, but does not require grey dongle because it's already built into the cable

So... the only real difference between ver 2 and ver 2b is just the cable/dongle?

As far as I know, yes.

I should be getting mine soon and I'm 99% sure it's a v2b, so we'll see. Im sure when you order the new cable, you could always ask Cobb.

if the bottom of your AP looks like this

http://www.wrxtuners.com/forums/attachments/f51/5541d1324257272-cobb-accessport-v2-9-pin-cobb-ap-connector-port.jpg

you have a V2b and need the V2b cable (http://www.cobbtuning.com/products/?id=5653)

V2 has a standard USB port as well as a mini USB port on the bottom. that is the one that uses the V2 dongle (http://www.cobbtuning.com/products/?id=5652)

Yeah, mine is a v2b just as shown in that pic. I'm looking at getting one of those cheapie ricer Type-S universal mounts from Canadian Tire or Walmart and mounting the AP on the left air vent above the DSC / AFS buttons, a couple people have used it on msf and reported good results.

edit: Scratch that idea with the Type-S mount, it's $16 + tax. I'll probably get this instead:

I need one of those mounts as well. Let me know which one you order, maybe combine shipping ?

No need for that :) The shipping is free~

I chose this one because I felt the foam padding on the side wouldn't obscure the AP screen as much as a couple others that were being sold for the same price:

Another tip, you know that little storage slot under the ODB-2 port? You can arrange your ODB-2 cable (using velcro zipties or something) into such a way that you can slot most of it into that storage slot and still have the cable reach up to your AP no matter where you put it.

I also bought a pack of velcro tape from Cdn tire and installed a backup velcro strip on the DSC/AFS panel. I cut about a 1.5" strip and mounted it to the left of the DFS/AFS buttons. This way if I forget the mount at home, or if it breaks or whatever, I can still mount the AP. I can see the colour screen at night reflected off the window such that it appears to be on the side mirror (it cannot be seen on the mirror from outside), but it doesn't cause any issues when changing lanes.
