Stumbled across a wiring diagram for a simple Aux input mod, I wasn't sure if it would work based on comments on the forum thread, but with one adjustment it works great. Attached is the modified wiring diagram for the CD changer port.

Some tips:

1. for the wire I used the male 3.5mm jack and wire from an old pair of desktop speakers that no longer worked
2. for the physical connections to the pins in the CD changer port I used jumpers from an old computer and spliced the wires to the jumpers

red/white/black is the 3.5 jack. you can find the ground in this connector and tap the black in with it. the jumper does wat? do you lose anything over this??m or is this model specific for something else?

I know that one of the pins is ground (the one right next to the red wire i think) but the chassis screw option seemed to work so I stuck with it, the jumper from what I can tell is to tell the head unit that there is an Aux input of some sort, and allows the "Media" button to access it. There is no functionality loss, steering wheel controls work (except next/prev track obviously). As far as the model goes I have an '06 3 sedan, I know i neglected to mention that in my first post, I would assume that most if not all 1st Gen models would work. (Sat Radio/Cd Changer uses this port so a switch would have to be installed to switch between them)

Do you have a "Media button" or a "MD" button?

Wasn't this posted already?

Slightly modified. I'm going to guess it still won't work on 04-05s though. Since 07+ come with an aux port, I think basically the only year this works on are 06s.

Thanks Stephen
So next question now is... How hard is it to put an 06+ stereo into an 04-05? I see piles of them at the wreckers going for $20-50

by slightly modified I mean the original had the ground and left channel switched (i guess I should have been more descriptive)
according to the original thread I got this from this should work for 04-06

couple pictures, I noticed interference from other electrical systems in the car, so I moved the ground to the pin directly to the left of the red wire, hopefully it is isolated from the rest of the car to prevent interference, I'll test and update

04-05 head units have a TAPE/MD input selection. The previous mod wouldn't work on our head units

from what I've heard the Sat Radio uses the same port, would that not allow the use of the SAT button to access the aux input, maybe with a couple wires moved around, perhaps the last image in the agent-rus's post which is titled "this is for mazda 3 2004-2006"

There is a different method to get it working on 04-05s but it is much more involved and involves a blank CD.

and a blank cd? so i figure you're just ****ing with me. I really want to get the aux input, seen the one on gtaa car kits for $100. but if i can get around why not. and seen the others who bought the simpler kit off ebay, but then found out it's for 06+

I bought the aux cord before I realised I had a TAPE/MD deck, so I went to the wreckers and got a deck with the MEDIA button only to find out that I was missing the harness for the LCD display in my car. The old non-media deck has a harness coming from the radio itself to the LCD. Its the same single CD non Bose HU I believe.

Its a 2005 Sedan sport.

If the only way to connect my I-pod is the GTA carkits I will spend the money but I just need confirmation that it will work with my TAPE/MD deck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
