So ive done some research on how to save money on sound deadening.
I've seen alot of people using stuff called seal and peel. It works exactly the same as dynamat and installation is the same also. It's a roofing product made with asphalt an has a foil covering to keep it together. However it's only available at lowes an they don't have those where I live. Has anybody used an alternative like this on there car fOr sound deadening? And what is it called/ where did you get it ?

I've also seen carpet underlay being used under the floor and headliner to improv sound quality. The only thing is I am afraid it might take on water in the winter and rust the floor.

What do you guys think ???

I was looking at dirts cheap alternative. Looking roofing materials that are similar are about 60$ for 100sq feet.

I hav no budget to pay full price on dynamat when I could find something for way cheaper that does the same job.

Still looking for cheaper lol. And of not something I can find in Canada I don't want to pay duty and stuff when it's delivered it ends up being just as expensive as dynamat

+1 for brown bread

Another option is trick bed liner or expanding foam

Look into blue skin.

Made from the same material ( butyl) but doesn't have the foil. It has rubber top coat.

Blue skin I have heard of. The bakor plant is actually close to where I live lol. I wil definitely look in to that.

Have you used it? Does it smell ?

now it might be me....but my can of rust proof from canadian tire says it deadens sounds... dries rubbery so i can understand how it works as a deadener too

I haven't used it. But if you like I can bring you a 1 ft sample to H4H. I do have some in my engine bay. Never noticed a smell from there but it's also outside the cab of the car.

Home depot has a cheap version of Dynamat in their home reno section. Ive seen people use it before, and sometimes works BETTER then Dynamat.

I Will check it out but I live in Montreal so no chance to go out to Oshawa for a meet.

I have been studying non stop for days and basically sound deadner adds mass to panels to reduce vibration in the panel ( eg. Bass makes panels vibrate). The concept is by adding mass to the panel it will eliminate vibrations from the speakers. Anything that adds mass wil do the trick even just by gluing dumbells to panels.

So the best thing to do us get the heaviest product that will fit into tight spaces.

I have also seen people use carpet underlay under there carpets to reduce rapid noise.
This is to insulate and dissipate noise. Not the same idea as sound deadener wich adds mass to panels.
This is more like sonopan. By passing the sound through the fibers it will eliminate sound and at the same time keep warmth/ cold in the car. Much like insulation in your walls at home.

The only beef with putting carpet underlay under your carpets in our climate is that it's not waterproof and will retain water wich could lead to rust in your undercarriage. So for that option I am undecided.
It's really inexpensive like 20$ to cover your entire floors even the trunk and maybe even headliner. The way i was thinking of doing it was to wrap the stud in plastic or maybe some rubber type stuff to make it water proof. Like a vapor barrier that you can find in any flooring section at a hardware store. But to still not sure because water may still end up in puddles in dips in the floor or near the door panels and firewall.

Then again with just one 10-12" sub Iay not need to go to these lengths to get good sound quality. I mean on the highway with the windows closed I find the 3 is pretty well insulated already. I may just start by doing just the tunk and side panels with some sound deadener and leave it at that.

What do you guys think of all this? You guys with subs have alot of rattles ?
Do you have anything to add or critique on what I have said ?

Your input is greatly appreciated :)

I know the owner (Anthony) rather well...lots of options other than the typical peel and stick stuff. It's good stuff. A couple years ago for the bubbaq he shipped up some packs of his damplifier stuff to have as prizes.

Here is an great site explaining more professionally what I said before

This guy knows what he's talking about. Although I still think I can find cheaper products at a hardware store. That reproduce these effects

For my old cavalier (many years ago) I put cardboard in the slots of the trunk to stop the metal-metal vibration. It worked very well. Cost me nothing and got great results. I didnt care much about the car but hated hearing the "rattle" noise when the system was on.

*Just a heads up, I dont think you will be able to remove it...lol...*

There's a lot of good advice here. I'm thinking this should be made into a sticky.

I've used B-quiet before and founds it quite good, it wasn't too thick so it was easier to apply and put in small places and if I wanted more coverage and thicker I could double up on it

Same. Got mines off ebay and insulated the trunk and back seats 3 years ago. Really good stuff.

hmmm anyone think the pink home insulation material would work well in our cars? I was thinking of packing the pink stuff into a denser format inside of ziplock bags and then mounting them on to the panels with double sided tape

Blue skin or Ice and Water Shield.

I have loads of bluskin. Probably enough to do my entire car twice over. Haven't tried it yet though. It's a PITA to remove so in case it doesn't work right it causes a smell I haven't wanted to try it.
