What do you mean by gasoline detergents?

@sarujo:
this is actually my first time using a FI cleaner so do I need to put this one before or after gas fill up?

Taken from an online source to be accurate.

Certain gasoline contains higher levels of detergent additives in order to prevent the build-up of engine "gunk," known to reduce fuel economy and engine performance and possibly lead to mechanical breakdown.

Hey OP, We drive a MZ3 not M3 :)
There are a lot of mixed feelings towards fuel additives. Doesn't hurt to try it out. But I wouldn't go pouring stuff down the tank every time I filled up.

I use this stuff if you read the instructions on the back it says to use it every time when you do your oil change, but I just use this stuff every 6 months

depends on which one your using. some will tell you to use after every other fill up of gas. some will say every 5000km. i personally use the formula 1 canadian tire FI cleaner when it goes on sale. i only use half a bottle every month.

most of these fuel injector cleaners have the same amount of the same ingredient. and some of these may reduce the lubricity of the fuel, which in turn could cause the fuel pump to work harder. others may do the exact opposite.

One of the best known cleaning components is PEA - polyether amine. The latest MSDS for Redline SI-1 shows 30 to 50% PEA. Good luck finding anything on the shelves of CDN Tire with a concentration anywhere near that. Most "cleaners" just contain solvents or if you are lucky to get PEA, it's very tiny composition - think 5%.

looks like good stuff :thumbsup how much are they usually though..? redline and higher end cleaners obviously has better ingredients. but with the over the shelf readily available cheaper stuff are very similar to each other. the msds on almost all of these cleaners are inaccurate to some degree to protect theyre "recipes" and it makes it hard to actually know whats really in them.

I USE to use lucas upper cylinder lubricant with fuel injector cleaner. i dont use it anymore because some people say it fouls plugs :/

The Redline is about $11 per bottle. It also has an upper cylinder lubricant in it like the Lucas.

depends on what brand your buying. its probably good to use water remover this time of year, and FI cleaner later. also.. dont add cleaners ALL the time at EACH fill up. use it occasionally just before putting gas in to let it mix.

hmm... where can i get it? i might wanna try it.

on a side note. there was one point during winter where i experienced MASSIVE drop in fuel economy on normal roads. used about 1 bottle of what i posted above and it started to get better. fuel economy has been top notch for the last 2ish months. it could have been bad fuel though...

BG 44k, Redline SI-1, Chevron Techron, or Gumout Regane High Mileage are the only ones I would use depending on how much I want to spend and the dosage needs
