I\'m going to get my tint done this Saturday (August 21st) and am doing 20% all around. I know that\'s illegal but big deal. I am doing the sunband strip on the front window and am doing that at 5%. What is the legal width of this strip. I\'m hearing 6 inches from the top. Any confirmation or thoughts on this?

I think 6 inches from the top of the windshield is legal as long as you don\'t put one of those banners.

I believe that is correct. I vaguely recall Martin @ FX Auto mention 15cm (equivalent to 6\"). He was a bit on the nay side about the \"eye brow\" since it just has the hard edge (it doesn\'t fade into the windshield at the bottom of the brow). I opted not to get that band but it would help during the late afternoon drives (or early morning).

If you do end up getting it, please take pics after it\'s on! :)

The limit is 15cm according to this link: http://www.iwfa.com/iwfa/Consumer_Info/auto_provincelaws.html

Pictures will be taken. I get it done this saturday and then i have to drive around for a week or 2 with the windows up. What is the recommended wait time? This is going to suck because i don\'t have AC.

The Tint on the winsheild will not affect the rain sensor. Tint is applied on the inside of the glass and wpould be cut around the rain sensor itself. My reason for not getting it done was the dot matrix (Black dots) that are on the windsheild around the rain sensor. Wiht dot matrix tint does not appear black instead it would turn a silver colour in that area where the rest of your windsheild brow would be black.

I have all those dots but do not have the rain sensing feature. That sucks but i think i will tint it anyways and see what they say about applying tint over the dots.

Theres nothing wrong with tinting over the dots. All I am saying is that it will be a silver colour where the dots are. This is due to the fact that the tint doesnt sit flat on the glass. Same effect as the border on the back windows of our cars that are silver in colour.

Those are air trapped between the tint and the glass, cuz the glass isn\'t smooth with the dots on it.

Just get the tint shop to cut around the sensor... it\'s not like you\'re going to have light coming through it anyways :p

Depends on the weather/temperature of the area where your car sits most of the time. The more heat the better (the liquid between the tint film and the glass evaporates and the film then \"sticks\" to the glass). I let mine sit for 7 full days. It was quite hot during a few of those days. On the 8th day I opened my windows without problems. The \"warning\" stickers that FX Auto has states \"3 to 5 days.\"

My tint guy said to wait 10 days, not a big deal for me because I\'d rather be safe than sorry anyway.

You\'ll have to live with the silver rings around the dots on your windshield and rear windows. There isn\'t anything that can be done about them. They are raised from the glass a tiny bit therefore the tint won\'t be able to seat perfectly around them.

After 3 days, my tint was perfectly fine. Wayne told me I could go for 2.5, but he told me wait for the full 3 to be sure.

I got the sunband put on at FX Auto 20% and I'm going back to get 5% and lower like 8-10 inches, if possible! I drive eastbound, early every morning, the 20% doesn't help, thats why I'm changing!....If you don't have rain sensor wipers don't worry about it...the opening I mean just get it covered...but FX has the computer cut just for that sensor.

The sunband is more of a practical and safety addition versus looks, as far as I'm concerned!!....I also think "looks-wise"; the addition of a sunband looks better with dark coloured cars like black, Indigo blue because it blends in better and not so noticeable....Snipes do yourself a favour and get the rear window done darker than 20%, 20 is not enough, lets in too much light, especially with a hatch, personally I've decided to get that redone to 5% also.

I have added pictures of the sunband from peoples' cars that were at the bubbaq (2008), just to make things more organized. I extend a thank you to the people that took the pictures.

:)

To find them, look at my post above.

Edit: Don't ask me why I remember these things. I am weird like that....Really....:loco

I had it on a previous car.

Other then cosmeticically, I felt it had no function whatsoever. Would I do it again?!?!?.... probably not.

Has anyone had their entire windshield tinted lightly?

It's sooo illegal I know, but I swear I've seen it before... on a Cadillac in particular, it wasn't too noticeable but I could hardly see the guy's face! Kinda want this done to protect my dash from sun damage, the sunband strip wouldn't do much...

I have seen a smart car running around Belleville with the whole windsheild tinted..and it was tinted dark
