View Full Version : RIP to My Blue Blazer
I got ticketed for \"Turn Not In Safety\" but cop says the other driver admitted to running a red light... (so why the bloody hell did I get charged?). Basically I am waiting to turn left. One car ahead of me. I am already in the intersection too. Light turns yellow. Oncoming traffic stops. Car ahead of me turns left. I proceed, ****, didn\'t see this speeding car dodge car ahead of me and now... oops too late... BAM... shock shock shock... I can\'t move... head hurts, neck hurts, back hurts, arms and legs feel numb... holy sh*t... have... to...call... Debby... she\'s waiting for me at Market Village... i hear voices, one man asking me if I\'m okay, I struggle to say yes... oops I lied... I call my work and try to get to my manager. I tell him what happened and he tells me not to worry about work. another voice... sir don\'t move, the ambulance is on its way... I hear running heels on the pavement, it\'s Debby... she\'s worried... she can\'t get my driver\'s door open. Fire fighter asks her to stand back. They yank open the door. They start asking me how I am, where am I hurting, etc. I told them my aches and my numbness. They check me out, life signs are okay... they tell me to stay seated and don\'t move.
I feel tired... eyes close... open... close... i just want to sleep...
Another fire fighter gets in the back and yanks off my head rest and supports my head/neck with his hands. Ambulance arrives and they question me and check me out. Eventually I am (by their suggestion) supported onto the stretcher with neck brace and questioned some more. I see many heads above me. They\'re taping my head down to the stretcher. I\'m tied down, can\'t move. Dang...
I\'m rolled to the ambulance and pushed inside. Questioned some more by paramedic and then we are moving... going to Scarborough Grace... rolling through the hallways... lights are bright... I don\'t like this feeling...
Eventually I\'m just left in the hallway... back of my head hurts... my lower back hurts. Paramedic asks for more info from me. Eventually a cop comes to question me. I tell him what happened. A bit of time later I\'m hauled to the X-Ray room for them to scan my neck and chest. I\'m a-okay.
I eventually come back out to the hallway, still on stretcher... back of head really aches now... my ankles ache cuz of my shoes weighing down my feet to the sides... lower back is still aching... I see my friend Karen there. Whoa, surprised to see her, but nice of her to leave work to come see me. Thanks :)
About 3.5 hours after the accident occured I\'m walking out of the emergency area. Dave and Art (Grifter) were there too, thanks guys, and sat down to eat a sandwich. I hadn\'t had lunch yet. It was like 5pm.
We go check out my car, the three of us guys. \"Holy ****\" was my reaction...

holy **** man...you are a really really lucky man to walk away from that with minor injuries or none at all. These kind of crashes usually kill people or seriously hurt them.
Don\'t worry about the car, just be happy you\'re alive and well. Get some rest and feel better.

i\'m sorry to hear that ... but glad that you don\'t seem to be hurt seriously ...
regarding the \"Turn Not In Safety\" charge, once i heard a cop talking to a lady at a police station, he said in any accident involved a left-turing vehicle, the left-turner will get a ticket for sure (unless the he had a left-turn arrow when he turned, i guess) even the other driver admitted he ran a red light or whatever ...
anyway, rest and don\'t worry too much ... things will be okay

Warren, my condolences to your car, but like everyone else says, I\'m really glad to hear you\'re okay but take care of yourslef the next few days, worry about the car later.
you\'ll probably have to pop a few T3\'s (Tylenol 3\'s) over the next couple of days. Robaxacet will help really well too, you\'ll definitely feel worse over the next two/three days. Believe me, I know.
Anyways, take care man
Ray
My condolences. At least you weren\'t injured. Take it easy - the car can and will be replaced.
I got into a minor accident (doing a U turn in a residenatial area, speeding car behind decides to pass me and hits my front left corner - new bumper, new rebar, new headlight, new fender...over $3500 in damage) in my 3 a couple of months back and I felt pretty down for some time after.

I was making a left turn (was in the intersection from when it turned green for me), the light turned yellow, a few cars went through. The light turned red, and I waited 3-4 seconds and a guy in a minvan looked like he was gonna stop. It was now green for traffic in the opposite direction, and the fact that he looked like he was slowing down, I went.. well he slamed right into me at 60kph. First thing after calling 911, I got out of the car, asked if the other guy was ok, then started flagging down witnesses. With 3 witnesses, he was charged for running a red. But yes, in 99% of cases the person making the left hand turn would be charged. If it weren\'t for the witnesses I wouldn\'t be getting another car!
Look up HTA 144 (18), and speak to X-copper or similar- they may be able to help wtom out.

- had problems with the financing
- had problems with the dealership wanting more money
- the clicking noise with your clutch

Hopefully this will change things for the better, in terms of your car. Think of it as an exorcism of evil spirits from your car. Isn\'t there an adage saying that bad things come in threes?

if your car isn\'t in an enclosed are and if there are no cameras, go overnight and take the rear bumper off the car ;) in fact, take the rims and leave it on bricks. this is, of course, after you find out that insurance is writing off your car.

not really sure about the price, but it will be cheaper than 2nd or 3rd hand stuff cause parts may be damaged which you can\'t detect them by human eyes.
as you can sometimes read Auto Mart/Trader, some ripped cars are selling through repair shops.

who took the pics? I kept my digicam in the glove compartment literally every minute I was driving the car. My gf knew this and she came to the location after I called her (literally seconds after i got hit)... after I was taken away in the ambulance, she took the camera out and started taking a few pics for me, knowing I\'d be wanting them. The pics from the collision centre parking lot tho are taken by myself, of course. :)

regarding left turn driver at fault unfortunately that is what i hear too... the responsibility for safety is 99% on the driver making the left turn... which indeed sucks!!!! Looking at my accident, that means I can run a red light and hit somebody who wants to make a left, opposite of me, turning to my right... and I\'ll be let off the hook? Again... proof of our ****ed up laws. Authoritta my arse.

Markham Mazda Markham Mazda doesn\'t even deserve the pile of Mazda3 metal that is sitting at the collision centre right now. Those ****en pieces of rubbish can take their letter of request for compensation (how long has it been now? they haven\'t contacted me at all) and use it to rip each other\'s in-between-fingers skin (a-la \"Jack Ass\" style) on each and every finger and toe! They can take the cat litter that was used to soak up the leaked fluids and oils tho... and cram that down their throats, in their ears, and up there...

Hope you get your new car soon.
I have no idea yet but the collision centre guys both said 100% the 3 will be a write-off. Hope they\'re right. There\'s no way in Hell I am driving that thing after what it\'s been through, repaired professional for 100 hours even.
I do not know where my insurance stands right now with regards to fault. i\'d be surprised if wtom\'s insurance doesn\'t write it off...
basically it needs a whole new front end (headlight assembly on both sides, hood, quarter panels, radiator supports, radiator, air box, ecu, fuse box, possibly a new engine if the block or head isn\'t cracked, possibly transmission, suspension components, CV joints, etc) and a frame straightening...also, the crumple zones have been severly stressed...
would you want to drive that car afterwards? :p

speaking as someone who was in wtom\'s position a mear 8 months ago........
Most insurance companies will write off a car if the repair value is within a certain percentage of the replacement value.
Granted my car was 3 yrs old vs wtoms months... the repair value for my protege5 was over 11 grand. the replacement value i was quoted was 16 grand. (i was high milage for a 3 yr old)
compare pics of my damage (http://photos.teambedlam.tv/thumbnails.php?album=4) vs wtoms damage....
What i found funny in the repair quote was that it looked like they wouldn;t have straightened the frame. rather they would have welded on a new front subframe. Not sure if that meant new new or new from a wrecker.
Anyways back to the point. I think they will write it off. There is still enough car left that they will more then recover their costs by auctioning the wreck off to wreckers

There is not a doubt in my mind that Warren\'s car is a write off. Like stated an ENTIRE front end, frame straightening, and god only knows what was done to the engine and mounts. That frame is a pretzel, and not worth fixing. Warren would never want it back after the work, cuase I would bet money it wouldnt line up correctly. Its a shame but your OK, and get a new car. Did you have the insurance stipulation about new cars, and if it is under 2 years old you get a new replacement?
~JOHN
It is always an opportunity to swap in a V6 :p Or what about a rotary :D
Hey guys, insurance called me early this morning and stated that BOTH my Mazda3 and my parents\' Accord are write-off\'s. GOOD. I\'d definitely NOT want to be driving the 3 (nor the Accord) if they chose to repair it instead.
Honestly though, at this point in time I\'m REALLY worried about insurance. I\'m either gonna be rejected come renewal (Jan 05) or will be severely punished with some crazy premium (presently $1,755 per annum).
I\'m actually REALLY liking the Velo Red colour but I think insurance will just find that as more reason (read \"excuse\") to push up my premium come renewal. Xenon mentioned the Blue colour was a bit more in insurance than the Gray (another explaination why so many ppl get the gray?).

I got into an accident back in March, an 83yr old woman pulled out of a lot as I was driving on the road and completely sideswiped me, damage from front pass. bumper, all through the sides, and to the back bumper. Mainly scratches and a few dents but $3000 in damages all in all.
Anyways, my ins. company deemed me 0% at fault so my premiums did not go up.
(In fact, they went down \'cause I just turned 25)
