Hi everyone. So around 11:55pm I got stopped by a police when I was exiting DVP going to (Richmond ST E/POWER ST)
He told me I was going 66kph on a 50kph zone.
If anyone is familiar with this place that particular place actually goes downhill and has a slight slope going down and I dont know if theres any visible sign around that area but I havent seen one. (But Im aware that without speed signs it should be 50)
So this police had set up this place as a speed trap which is unfair cause you tend to speed up when your car is going down in slope.
I tried to be polite and explained to him why I was speeding and he gave me a warning ticket.
Its my first time receiving one and I dont know what to do with it?
Does it have an impact on my record, insurance and do I get demerit points on it?
He told me this will be recorded so other police can see it if I get pulled over by other police on the future.

So is there a fine or is it just a warning?
If the officer actually gave you a written notification with a fine it's a ticket, otherwise they are just trying to scare you and it will not show up on your driving record.

It says Provincial Offences Warning on the ticket I received.
Its a warning but I dont know if this thing affects demerits or insurance or records.

Its not unfair. Its your job to control the speed of your car.
That said, is there a set fine amount on the ticket (money to pay?)
If there is thats a ticket. If not they cut you a break.

The moral of the story is that the speed limit applies regardless whether it's uphill or downhill. I had a friend fail his driving test (decades ago) because of it.
(Not saying you're a bad driver or anything; just saying we should all watch out for it. That location exiting onto Richmond is well known for speed traps specifically for this reason.)

this is the one I received btw:
Can someone tell me If this affect demerit points, insurance and records?
Cop told me it will be on their record. So if I get pulled over the next time they know that I have been warned

Saids "This is not a ticket, WARNING ONLY"
I won't be concerned and just be careful next time.

It's not a ticket. It's a warning. He was being nice to you as he could have ticketed you. It will not show up for insurance or have any demerit points.
The warning will be recorded in the police computer system so if another cop pulls you over and checks they will see the warning and you will get a ticket next time instead of a warning.

Mazdaagain nailed it on the head.
It is not a ticket, it's a warning. If you get pulled over for the same thing again within 2 years (or however long it stays on your record) then you will not be so lucky.
No fine, no demerit points, no impact on your insurance.
I got one for a burnt out headlight years ago.
And its nothing new that cops sit at the bottom of the hill, its quite a frequently used speed trap as the extra momentum your car builds up puts you that much over the limit! GOtta control your vehicle even if you're going downhill.

Thats weird because it says its a warning but it has the $55 amount. I received a warning couple years back but it was verbal only
Instead of moaning about it being unfair be thankful you got a cop with a bit of sympathy, 16 klicks over could have also have had demerit points as well as a fine, insurance affected as well. it is your responsibility to control your speed, either by using your brakes that's what they are there for. Or in the case of a MT be shifting to a lower gear.

Read please. "If you had been charged with this offense the set fine would have been: $55"

Not a ticket, no need to pay and no need to worry about insurance/points. Be careful next time, drive at the speed limit, uphill or downhill.
Take care.

That exist is notorious for speed traps where the Shell gas station is. There is a 50kmph sign on the ramp, fairly early on @ https://goo.gl/maps/wcM8E
Sometimes I go 55kmph on that ramp and I get people tailgating me.

this is where I exactly I got caught speeding. Oh well, not so surprising that police have these places as a fishing spot.

We should petition Mazda to fit our cars with some kind of device that would allow us to reduce the speed of our vehicles, even when going downhill. Perhaps it could be foot-operated with some sort of pedal?

Got a warning, and still complained it wasn't your fault. If I was the cop I would have written the ticket lol

Just a warning. Doesn't affect your insurance. It's only a "warning ticket" just so you are aware that they have given you a warning and its in their database. Next time you get pulled over by another cop they will see this and its up to that cop whether to give you another warning or write you a real ticket. Consider yourself lucky since you admitted to speeding..

All of what's written on that warning slip is in PLAIN ENGLISH. So, how hard is it to understand? I guess people don't know how to read or don't want to read these days... we're all doomed

The reading level is only elementary school.
I'm not even sure why credential23 is mad, even if it was a ticket. He caught you going over, big deal. If it was a real ticket go fight it.
The disappointment in credential23 (aside from the reading) is he/she only blanked out their own information and not the officers'. If the officer treated you badly, sure I can understand posting his information. From the post, it was a standard speed trap. Actually, the fact you got a warning in a speed trap is unheard of.

Im not mad. why you guys making this a big deal? I just asked if these things affects demerit points insurance and if it would stay on ur records?
Its my first timing having this. I got pulled over because I made a mistake I get it. Were just humans we make errors. Im just saying that police set up speed traps and fishing spots where majority of the drivers will tend to be caught off guard and in my mind I think thats unfair.

Unfair?
It makes the most sense. If people tend not to be obeying the law in a certain area, perhaps police presence should be increased to ensure that the law is being followed.
I bet you'll brake next time you go down that hill.

+1 my road is a 50 with and off ramp on to it from an 80 km/h rural road and people take that ramp at 90 and fly down our road where kids are playing since the majority of people speed down my road should the cops not set up a speed trap at the end of the road like they always do I think not I'm happy there trying to keep my neighborhood safe

If you want to know why people aren't being sympathetic, here you go:
He told me I was going 66kph on a 50kph zone.... So this police had set up this place as a speed trap which is unfair cause you tend to speed up when your car is going down in slope.
I tried to be polite and explained to him why I was speeding and he gave me a warning ticket.
1) You were speeding. Going down a hill is not a valid excuse.
2) Explained you were speeding because on a slope?? Really??
3) No, this is not unfair. You were speeding. Own up to it.
Its my first time receiving one and I dont know what to do with it?
Does it have an impact on my record, insurance and do I get demerit points on it?
He told me this will be recorded so other police can see it if I get pulled over by other police on the future.
1) The officer told you why you got it, and what would happen.
2) Very clearly on the Warning, it states no further action is required, and that it's not a ticket.
You got a cop who was lenient on you, and you are still complaining about how unfair it is that you didnt receive a ticket. Not many people will show sympathy, but at least your questions were answered.

His question has been answered, and numerous people have been quick to get on his case... Can this thread just die now?
