View Full Version : Mazda Wear Protection (from a 3rd party?)

For anyone who has purchased wear care on their Mazda: Did you notice if it was directly through Mazda? Or was it through a 3rd party?

Upon signing up for a new lease, we made absolutely sure that we added protection against scratches, dents etc so we could return the lease worry-free. However it wasn't until after all was said and done that we realized this package is offered through a company called "Diamond Kote". We read through the contract and saw that it only covers "dings and dents where the paint has not been damaged"... and apparently does not cover the bumper either. Did we get completely duped here? Or is this the new standard that Mazda works with?

You pretty much got duped. Never buy third party warranty. They're usually a pain in the ass to get stuff warrantied.

Seriously.... I've heard horror stories of non-legitimate factory warranties.

I emailed the dealership and asked them if i'm just misunderstanding, this was their reply:

The only difference between the product is the scratch and paint factor. The rules with LGM version is a scratch under 2 inches in length and not down to metal. The reality is that a scratch that small can be buffed out by hand within only a couple miuntes

Hoping Jeff-TheBiz or someone with knowledge of this program can chime in on this reply!

LGM aka Mazda Appearance Protection... is an amazing product, I just had one of our own members car that was dropped off early taken care of under its program to tune of $2400 worth of work.
They are incredibly easy to deal with and I rarely get any refused claims.

It also covers a replacement windshield, lost keys, curbed rims....

Diamond Coat... never heard of them.....

It certainly is a great product, which is why we made sure we had it last time.

This time around we went to a different dealership, I had no idea they could even offer this via third party...

Is that reply even accurate though? Does the Mazda warranty not cover damage to the bumper? Let alone, I feel like any scratch, down to the metal or not, would require a fix to the paint... pretty sure the Mazda Appearance Protection would take care of the paint... I'm curious to see the fine print of the Mazda one. This is what the Diamond Kote one says. I feel like it's not the same thing at all. (Also it covers windshield repair and indicated nothing about replacement) :(

Dent and Ding Repair Protection

Should You have have purchased Dent and Ding Repair Protection, as indicated on the declaration page, the following coverage will apply. Paintless Dent
Repair, also known as PDR is a method in which minor dings and dents to the painted exterior metal panels of the vehicle body are repaired with specialized
tools without affecting the factory finish of the vehicle. We will cover the cost to repair minor dents and dings subject to the terms herein, up to a maximum cost
of $125 per repair incident. An incident is defined as any visit to a repair centre where the PDR process is applied to dent(s) or ding(s).
Exclusions for Dent and Ding Repair Protection

This Program does not cover:

a) Large or deep dents or dings that exceed 2 inches in diameter;
b) Any damage that cannot be repaired by the PDR process;
c) Dents or dings where the paint has been damaged;
d) The scuffed paint areas on a dent;
e) Bumpers;
f) Repairs to any dent or ding that, if repaired, could damage the vehicle’s paint or finish;
g) Dents or dings that are inaccessible due to the following (but not limited to):
i) After-market equipment - such that the after-market equipment alters the original factory configuration of the vehicle.
ii) Edges where the manufacturer’s bracing does not allow for the PDR process.
iii) Any weather related damages.
iv) Any dent or ding from a previous incident that was excluded from coverage as it was in excess of the maximum benefit herein.

Based on your list, it would not be worth the cost in most cases.

Here's my example: I would have spent over $1000 on this protection package for my 2014 Mazda3, i forget the actual cost.

My repairs at the end of the lease would have been fixing/repainting front and rear bumper cover (these things were not covered by the protection warranty), repainting mirror cap because of deep scratch, and some PDR dents on the body.

The only thing this protection warranty would cover were the PDR dents, of which my bill is a whopping $350.

The reality is in the case of a scratch if you can feel the scratch with your finger nail it cannot be buffed out, dents larger than the 2 inches quoted can be successfully worked out with PDR provided the paint has not been broken. In reality you have been sold a pup with this warranty. Nine times out of ten 3rd party warranties are more trouble than they are worth. I hope you didn't pay a lot of moneyfor this warranty.

Hard to say whether or not I paid a lot for it... it was rolled into the price of the car. Apparently this is a warranty they use at Volvo (which is beside this particular dealership). Still not as good as the Mazda one. They're working with me, but saying I'll have to pay extra for the Mazda one since it costs more. Doesn't seem fair since I was led to believe I was working in the price of the other one into my monthly payments :S

Reading the exclusions, what you have now ain't worth much, all of the exclusions listed are ideally what you buy a warranty to cover. If the Mazda warranty covers all of what you want you might be well to consider it. However this is a suggestion. If you can afford to bank 50 or 75 bucks a month over the period of the lease you may be further ahead than buying a warranty, at the end of the lease you have X number of dollars toward damage repairs, if you don't use it you are ahead of the game, whereas with the warranty you are gambling that you will need it. Your choice.

Yep good point! Not that I plan on having a bunch of scratches all over my car or anything, I just don't trust anyone else ;)
