they spend 90% of their funds on making how to make the deck looks nice, and spend 9% advertisement. and actual 1% on the designing the deck itself in term of SQ. never buy sony deck.

As far as Sony goes, here is my take, and I have owned Panasonic, Sony, Eclipse, Alpine, MTX, Pioneer, Phoenix Gold, kenwood, etc. Pretty much a little bit of everything.

If you arent spending much, and just want something better than stock, Sony is fine. If you take the same $ and invest in another brand, you can usually do better. Sony does have some very nice decks that DO have AMAZING SQ, but you will pay for them huge. Some of the sony deck, that are pre-amps are nice, but you MUST have an amp, and the nicer ones were over $1300 :p.

Sony isn\'t horrible for the cheap price tags they usually carry, but for the same money you can do better :)

I just got my 3 2 weeks ago and I\'m having a hard time deciding what to put in the car since gf\'s putting a spending limit... Mind sharing your thoughts (aside from the obvious whipping from gf :p) on what type of upgrades on sound system?

lol I\'ve been following the forum quietly... :D PotatoHead... there\'s a guy who\'s even more whipped.

Either way, my preliminary budget is 1500 but that\'s flexible... Planning to put around 4k in total on the car... any suggestions?

LOL he\'s gonna kick you for that! As for audio mods, I\'ll let the others handle that. I\'m totally not in the car audio know-how.

I\'d get pissed at having to open it up all the time just to press a stinkin button. I must say I like the Kameleon decks though.

I agree with Method man!!! Chameleon is a better choice, but its so easy to tell if theres a deck or not!!! ooooh a black rectangular frame!!!

I recommend pioneer DEH-P7600MP not too expensive about $300 nice features ... or mine ..Its a SONY I know what others have said but I have some carDomain magazines here and they have my sony decks specs pretty high ... its a sony CDX-F7705x same price ...don\'t know why everyone is ripping sony!

Pioneer:
size - DIN
MP3 + WMA
Removable face plate
preamps - 3 * 2V
opt aux out
22W rms
50W max
94(dB) signal ratio
FM sensitivity 8

Sony
size - DIN
MP3 Removable face plate
preamps - 3 * 4V (higher Volt the better)
Standard aux out (standard)
23W rms
120(dB) signal ratio ( higher the number the better)
FM sensitivity 9 (lower number better)

here is my take. i would say that if you are upgrading just your deck, or doing the whole system, there are certain brands that just work better than others for certain components. i would say:

deck: Pioneer or Alpine
Speakers: Alpine
Subs: Kicker (MTX is decent too)
Amp: Probably JL

LET THE ARGUING BEGIN

Lets not start a thread about which brand is better. Opinions vary, and you will NEVER have agreement on the subject, because sound is different to everyone. And SPL, or SQ? Is cost a factor? I have seen componant sets into the thousands. I dont think an Alpine Set will touch them. Eclipse and Focal arent on your list, but are known to be two of the leaders in the industry.:D

Not agruing, as I do like your pics, but there is always better.

JL e4300 ($400 CDN w/ warrenty from a authorized dealer)
- 2 channels for components
- 2 channels for sub

HeadUnit ($200 - $300)
- alpine or pioneer

JL Subwoofer ($150 - $240)
-JL w0 or the new w1s

Components
- Brax Helix German Speakers ($350)
- Or basically Pioneers or Alpines around ($400)

should fit ur budget tightly.
