KIA

The local manufacturer had a few concepts up their sleeve. The KCV-IV was perhaps the most impressive looking on the Kia stand.

Powered by a 201kW V6 engine, the KCV-IV has a pretty big heart. Its overall length is 5.3m and it is a touch under two metres wide. The KCV-IV features a detachable centre console, an electric variable deck, flip up rear window, sunroof and LED rear lights.

The little yellow JB Sport concept also caused some interest. Powered by a 2-litre, 147kW turbo engine the JB Sports sits on 18-inch wheels, has dual exhausts, rear spoiler, five-speed automatic gearbox, navigation screen and DVD and MP3 audio system. Kia also took the opportunity to show its KCD-II concept, revealed early this year in Detroit. The KCD-II SUV is powered by a 4.6-litre V8 and has a dual sunroof, automatic sliding side step, adaptive cruise control, downhill and hill start assist control.

Kia Motors Corporation is unveiling its sensational new Kia Sport concept car at the Paris Auto Show today. The Kia Sport concept car is based on the five-door hatchback version of the company’s forthcoming all-new B-segment model (code-named ‘JB’) which will be launched next spring. Power for the bright yellow projectile comes from a special 2-litre, 200 hp turbocharged gasoline engine driving the front wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission.

Kia designers have created a dynamic, sporty-looking concept car that reflects the vision of Kia’s small car design philosophy. The wide air intake and front air-dam, linear grill graphics, sleek profile, prominent wheel arches, wide 18-inch diameter five-spoke alloy wheels, dual exhausts, sweeping rear lamp clusters, bold exterior color and striking roof-top aerodynamic wing - all combine to give the Kia Sport a fantastic road presence.

“The Kia Sport really is a stunning concept car,” said Yong-Hwan Kim, Senior Executive Vice President and COO of Kia Motors. “The design team in Korea has created a car that is young-at-heart, a bold but subtly detailed embodiment of automotive styling. It will undoubtedly appeal to our target customers, 20 to 30 year-olds with an exciting personality and an active lifestyle.”

Inside, the styling is ‘driver-oriented’ with a mix of leather and metal materials used to create a sporty, spacious and functional interior in colors which harmonize with the exterior. Yellow and dark grey leather is featured on the seats, door trims and center console. Light gleams from the metal finish of the center fascia, with its satellite-navigation, DVD player and climate control, and from metal highlights on the gear selector, steering wheel, and center console.

The Kia Sport concept car is 4150 mm long, 1800 mm wide and 1470 mm high, with a 2500 mm wheelbase.

“The bold, bright Kia Sport concept car is another milestone in Kia’s journey to become a top global car maker. It has been created with young consumers very much in mind. Depending on public reaction to this sensational show car, a full production version may be introduced during 2006,” concluded Mr. Kim

Yeah! Production versions are usually toned down a bit. It will be interesting to see if it will go into production and hit our shores here soon. I\'m awaiting the accessory list and pricing which will be a serious contender in this hot-hatch marketplace. Most likely a de-tuned engine will be placed in it, so the 200hp is a pipe dream. What about the KIA Spectra/Protege 5 ?

Yeah, as soon as we saw the ads for the Spectra5 we couldn\'t believe what a rip off of the P5 it was. This one looks too close to a 3 if you ask me. Even the rims look almost identical.

It\'s one thing to innovate, but to immitate is sort of gross. Mazda must feel honored in some way of which this replica 3 will be sold. But damn, there should be some sort of legal action...the styling is too damn close.
