Safety Test/check recommendations (ontario ministry)
Hey all,
I need to get a safety test/check complete for ontario ministry of transportation so that I can change ownership of my car (under another family's name atm)
Any recommendations?
so far quotes have ranged from $99-$178.
I will need the certificate as well.
Thanks in advance.
Re: Safety Test/check recommendations (ontario ministry)
I am guessing you need a safety and an Emissions test (aka E-test) done.
The safety(certificate) will look over every component on the car and has starting July 1 2016 become a much more involved process than what it used to be. Very possible that the shops quoting you may or may not have adjusted pricing accordingly for the new safety's.
The E-test, as long as no engine lights are on, you should be good to go and be able to pass. The test simply looks to make sure all the monitors are operating and in "ready" mode. You are allowed 1 not ready.
For the safety I would recommend Jimmy at street performance or your own trusted mechanic.
E-test can be done anywhere that has a machine. This is a government standardized machine with the same price across the board at 35 or 40$ I think.
Re: Safety Test/check recommendations (ontario ministry)
I thought both Safety and e-tests are standard prices
Any Repairs to pass these tests are extra.
Go to a trusted mechanic, and let them know the situation. They may be more lenient.

+1 Jimmy
He showed me the July 1 form yesterday. It is much more paper work for mechanics and requires lots of specific measurements so his price has been adjusted accordingly to match the added work.

I'm not aware of safety's being standardized. Generally safety is minimum an hour. but with the new standards they recently released some places have fluctuated up and some have not.

That's right.
The certificate is standard - the labour varies

Fairly certain Jimmy does not do safety checks.
