How To: 6x8 to 6.5 speaker adapter template
I've created a template for anyone who wants to use it. It will allow you to use either 6.5" or 5.25" speakers in the factory locations. All you have to do is print out the template at 100% and use it to trace onto your material (MDF, plywood, plexiglass, etc).
The template hole was made to fit a 6.5 that had a large basket. If you are using 5.25" just cut the hole smaller to accommodate the smaller speaker.
The larger holes are for the factory mounting points/screws. The smaller holes are for the speaker mounting points. The speaker mounting points are just approximate as they worked for me, but you can pretty much put them wherever as long as they do not interfere with anything.
For mounting the speakers - If you use screws that are longer than the thickness of the adapter, they may run into the plastic behind the adapter. So try using smaller screws.

Do they have a toronto store or just a Canadian online shop?
I was looking for a brick and mortar shop to get it immediately and not pay shipping but I'll still check them out

Re: How To: 6x8 to 6.5 speaker adapter template
If you can't wait, call one of the audio sponsors or FS/BB. If you can wait either go through Crutchfield Canada or these guys on Ebay. They are legit and this is where I made my template from.

Re: How To: 6x8 to 6.5 speaker adapter template
for reference I just got out of a chat with crutchfield.
According to them, 2010+ mazdas have the following restrictions for when you size a speaker:
Magnet diameter: 2.7" for the front and 2.9" for the rear.
Depth: 1.9" in the front and 3.3" in the rear.

Re: How To: 6x8 to 6.5 speaker adapter template
Depending on the speaker you plan on putting in to your factory speaker cavity. using pre-made speaker plates may cause the new speaker magnet to interfere with the power window mechanism, also some aftermarket speakers have different size and shape speaker baskets which may not sit properly into pre-made plates. also pre-made plates made of plastic or PVC can vibrate and leak causing sound distortion. the best option is using 1/2 inch MDF and cutting your own spacer plates with a jig saw, this method lets you make a custom mount for not only you vehicle, but also for your new speaker. the MDF has enough flexibility to mount securely to the door panel with out vibrating or leaking.

Thanks for the template man. For the issue of running longer screws, I just rotated where the speaker sat on the adapter and it will fit inside of the stock opening.

6x8 should fit without any additional template.

Re: How To: 6x8 to 6.5 speaker adapter template
Not trying to revive this thread, but its better than creating a new one.
Does anyone have a copy of the PDF template I see that's listed above? The link no longer works (atleast for me).
I plan on running Kicker KS60's in all 4 doors and just making my own mounts out of MDF.
Thanks
