That train left the station in 2010 when the 6 year (extended by Mazda from 5 years) rust warranty expired. I'm in the same boat, time to pony up some bucks and get it fixed.

Most cars nearing 10 years old, if driven in the winter, are going to start showing signs of rust. Yes, there will be exceptions. No, this is not unique to Mazda.
