What you said is basically how you would do it. Put the red side of the adaptor into the blue crimp and give it a good squeeze. You will want to put that tap on a fuse in your driver side fuse box...

Ya.. My driver side lower seat heater burnt out too. Luckily it was still under warranty so took it to Mazda and it fixed it for me.
