To answer my own question for others, no you do not need a nut at the end. Just torque it down.

FYI this bolts thread is M12, length I'm unsure of. I have a M12 that extends 3cm past the thread on the other side. I plan on cutting it to-size once I know if I need to put a nut on the end or not....
