After viewing some youtube videos I have come to the conclusion that this oil must be the result of the left axle seal leaking. Looks like a simple axle pull and seal pop out/hammer in.

Looking at high mileage Mazda 3 hatchback today and it looked like the transmission was leaking a fluid that looked like engine oil [yellow]. Didn't seem to be coming from the bottom, but the top, or...
