This issue started up on me again, usually when it was wet out.
Figured I would try and get to the bottom of it and hopefully resolve based on suggestions in this thread (cable adjustment,etc)....

Have they checked the refrigerant pressure? If you have a slow leak and are losing refrigerant, the compressor won't come on once there's too little in the system.

I would also check the rear springs. They can rust through at the bottom leaving a couple of inches of spring bouncing around in the mount.

With regard to the shuddering at stoplights, have a look at the passenger side motor mount. When this goes, it usually presents itself as vibration at stoplights. You might see oil that's leaked out...
